DRESS CODE
Parents and students should certainly review the
Student Handbook to ensure they understand the
rules as well as the nuances of our Dress Code. The
Student Handbook will be available online Tuesday,
August 6th. You may access this publication on the
St. John’s Jesuit web page @ www.sjjtitans.org
under Academics/Student Handbook. The last page
of the Handbook must be downloaded, signed and
returned at Registration.
TUITION AND FEES were due in full as of
July 1, 2013 per the pre-paid tuition plan. If you
have questions about your tuition payment, please
contact the Business Office, Ext. 250. Beginning
August 1st late fees will be charged on the unpaid
balance.
FORMS, FORMS, FORMS…
NEW THIS YEAR…..DATA FORMS will be
completed online. Everyone will be receiving an
email with your user name and password login to
complete the data forms the week of July 29th. This
form must be completed on line in order for your son
to receive his schedule on Registration Day. Please
read through carefully and make any changes
necessary.
STUDENT HANDBOOK AND EMERGENCY
MEDICAL FORMS were mailed in July. These
forms should be completed and returned on
Registration Day. Please go to
www.sjjtitans.org. You will find a link named
‘Registration Day’ forms. Please download
the Student Handbook Agreement and
Consent Form (attached). Please read and
complete the necessary information, sign and
return on Registration Day. These are
MANDATORY forms that are due at
registration.
A copy of BIRTH OR BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE for
freshmen and transfer students should be turned in as
soon as possible to the Principal’s office.
A few friendly reminders for the upcoming school year:
Please remind your son to return his Emergency Medical
Form on the day of registration. If your son needs to take
medication during school hours, a medication form needs to
be completed with a parent and physician signature. The
medication must be in a properly labeled pharmacy bottle.
Your son may carry an inhaler labeled with his name. A
“Permission to Carry an Inhaler” form must also be
completed and signed by a parent and student to keep on
file in the health office.
It is necessary that all incoming freshmen return an
immunization form to ensure that all required vaccinations
are complete. If you chose not to have your son vaccinated,
a letter stating refusal with parent signature is needed. If
your son has a chronic medical condition, we would like to
schedule a parent meeting to discuss and develop a
treatment plan. In addition, an “Allergy Action Plan” needs
to be completed and reviewed if your son has severe food or
bee sting allergies. All health forms may be downloaded
from the SJJ website. Click on the “Parents” icon and
scroll down to “Health Office.”
Please contact the health office at ext. 347 if you have any
questions or concerns.
ATTENDANCE
Absences: Students are expected to be present each day
for every period including homeroom. If a student must
be absent, a parent or guardian is required, by law, to
inform the Associate Principal’s Office. Failure to
provide proper notification of an absence before 9:00 am
on the day of the absence may result in an unexcused
absence. If an absence remains unverified, a note stating
the reason for the absence, the date of the absence, with
a parent or guardian signature is required upon the
students return to school. Failure to present this note
may result in disciplinary action.
Excused Absences:
1) Student Illness (if absent for 3 or more days, a
written statement from medical professional is
required)
2) Illness in the family necessitating the presence of
the student.
3) Quarantine of the home
4) Death of a relative
Excused Absences Requiring Prior Approval:
1) Medical or dental appointment (written statement
from medical professional required)
2) Observance of religious holidays
3) College visitation
4) Other events deemed by the AP to be of
educational or developmental value
Approval may be obtained by completing a Personal
Absence Form located in the AP Office. This form
requires a parental note, teacher signatures, AP approval
and must be completed no less than one week prior to the
absence.
An excused absence entitles the student to make up tests,
homework, etc. at the convenience of the teacher.
Absences for reasons not listed as excused will be
deemed unexcused. An unexcused absence forfeits the
student’s right to makeup tests, homework, etc. at the
discretion of the teacher.
ATTENTION
Books will be loaned for most classes during
JUNIORS, SENIORS AND PARENTS
the first few days of school. The Student Handbook
contains a policy statement on responsibility for
care of state-loaned textbooks. Since these
textbooks do mean a considerable savings for
parents, it would be well to be familiar with this
policy. Students are required to cover all stateowned textbooks to protect the books.

DRESS CODE 2013-2014
Our mission at SJJ is to develop Christian leaders. A student's reasonable and respectable appearance is his personal
responsibility. The dress code is in effect in the school building on all school days from the beginning of morning prayer
until the end of eighth period. Students are expected to adhere to the spirit of the dress code, not just the letter. Slovenly
appearance, even in dress code, is unacceptable. Some of the norms of reasonableness are:
1. Titan Card: Students must carry their current SJJ student ID at all times. IDs are allowed to be worn on the SJJ
approved House lanyard. No other lanyards are allowed.
2. Shirt: A dress shirt must be buttoned to at least the top two buttons. Shirts must remain tucked in completely at all
times, including while seated. Lettering from undershirts may not show through the dress shirt. Knit sport shirts, flannel
shirts, rugby shirts and some printed shirts are not considered dress shirts and are not acceptable attire. In addition,
turtleneck shirts and shirts with banded collars are not allowed. Students may not wear a long-sleeve shirt under a short
sleeve dress shirt.
3. Tie: Conventional tie or a bowtie must be worn. Ties should be of conventional length and style, and worn up high
enough to cover the top button.
4. Pants: Conventional dress pants, in good repair must be worn and properly fitted at the waist. This excludes all jeans,
of any color, cargo pants, painter’s pants, or any pants with huge pockets on the front or sides, drawstring pants, pants
with piping or stripes down the side and army fatigues, or any pants with rivets or hammer loops. Pants with excessively
frayed bottoms are not allowed.
5. Belt: Dress belts must be worn. Belts should be leather in look. Ornate decorations or large buckles will not be
allowed.
6. Shoes: Shoes must be conventional black or brown dress shoes that are leather or leather in look. Shoes must have a
back. The sole and sides must be black or brown. Sports shoes, work boots, hiking or athletic boots, canvas shoes,
sandals, moccasins, slippers, and clogs of any color are unacceptable. SPORTS SHOES AND BOOTS MAY BE WORN
TO SCHOOL, BUT STUDENTS MUST CHANGE INTO DRESS SHOES BEFORE MORNING PRAYER. Shoes must
remain in good repair and socks must be worn.
7. Hair: Students must keep hair, including facial hair, neatly groomed. Hair should be neat, clean, properly combed, of
modest proportionate length, thickness, and style. The following is not considered acceptable: streaked, grooved, lined,
shaved patterns/numbers/words, partially shaved hair, or hair of such length that it extends beyond the collar or in some
way obscures a student’s face. Extremes in style are to be avoided. If a student dyes his hair, it is to be of only one
traditional color.
8. Wednesday House Polo: On Wednesdays and Mass Days, the house polo is permitted in place of the conventional
dress shirt. Polos must remain tucked in. Long sleeved t-shirts or thermal shirts may be worn under the House Polo.
9. Winter Wear: During the winter months, students are encouraged to wear sweaters (cardigan, turtleneck, v-neck, or
crew-neck). Students may purchase a dress code approved fleece in the Titan Bookstore. Athletes may also order sport
specific fleeces of a similar look to the approved fleece (navy blue, quarter zip, with a small SJJ logo on the chest or
sleeve). Dress code approved fleeces are permitted for daily wear. A dress shirt and tie must be worn underneath all
permitted sweaters and fleeces.
10. Senior Fleece and Sweatshirt: Seniors have the special privilege of wearing a pre-approved senior fleece/sweatshirt
during the school day. This fleece/sweatshirt must be approved by the AP before the start of the school year. The fleece
can be worn any day of the year. Seniors must wear a shirt and tie beneath the fleece/sweatshirt.
11. Hats: No hats or caps of any kind are to be worn in the school building. Hats must be removed upon entering the
school building and be placed in the student's locker until the end of the school day.
12. Jewelry: Jewelry is not to be excessive. The traditional class ring is certainly encouraged; however, multiple rings are
not allowed. Earrings of any kind are not allowed, whether they are covered up or not. A single bracelet may be worn on
each wrist.
13. Body Markings: If a student has a tattoo, at no time is it to be displayed at school or while the student is participating
in an extracurricular sport or activity. Nail polish and makeup of any kind is prohibited.
14. Dress Down: During dress down days, students must either remain in standard dress code or wear a professionally
printed SJJ shirt with jeans, dress pants, khaki shorts or dress shorts. Tennis shoes are allowed. Dress down days during
spirit weeks will follow the pre-approved theme of the day.
15. Sport Coats: Sport coats are not required as part of the daily dress code, but are requested for certain events
throughout the year such as Mass, dances, and other various SJJ functions.
Please note that the AP makes the final approval of items 1 to 15. Items not covered in the dress code should be
considered unacceptable. Parents of students who lack the appropriate components of the dress code will be contacted
during the school day and be asked to bring the appropriate item(s) to school. The student will be withheld from class and
considered unexcused until he can fulfill the spirit of the dress code.
ELECTRONICS AND MISCELLANEOUS
1. Personal electronic devices are permitted for personal use only in the Carty Fox Commons and the Senior Patio.
The iPad is the only acceptable electronic device in all other areas of the school. Personal electronic devices such as
cell phones and music players should not be visible or heard during the school day in any area other than the Carty
Fox Commons and Senior Patio. Students violating this policy will have their device submitted to the AP’s office
where it will be held until the end of the day. The first offense will require a $20 fine to release the device from the
AP’s Office (all money will be turned over to the Missions Fund). Any subsequent offense will require a parent to
pick up the device and a $50 fine.
2. Water bottles are permitted in classrooms as long as the teacher allows them. No water bottles are to be in the
theater, computer labs, or science labs. Water is the only substance allowed in the water bottles. No sports drinks,
pop/soda, or other beverages are allowed. Water bottles cannot exceed 24 ounces in size.
3. Food and beverages are permitted in the Carty Fox Commons only.
In an effort to assist parents and students with purchases in the bookstore, food court and
business office, St. John’s Jesuit has a student ID card that will enable parents to “load”
money on their son’s card, similar to a bank debit card. Students will be photographed
and receive their picture ID card on their registration day. They will be able to “load”
money on their ID card immediately. Please contact the Business Office, if you have any
questions about the new “Titan Card”.

ID Cards can be used to pay for purchases in the
Bookstore, Food Court, Activities and Business Office

Titan Card can be loaded and reloaded on-line or in
the Business Office.

No minimum purchase on “Titan Card”.
Maximum balance on “Titan Card” is $250.00.

The cost of the “Ti tan Card” is $5.00.

All students must purchase a “Ti tan Card”.

Students will get their “Ti tan Card” at registration
and will be able to load funds on it immediately.
Dear Parents,
One of the most important keepsakes for St. John’s Jesuit
students is the school’s yearbook, Promethean. Produced by SJJ
students, the yearbook captures the memorable moments of student
life and is a permanent record of your son’s time at SJJ through his
athletic teams, student organizations, and his special activities.
Again this year the 2014 Promethean will be available for
purchase. The cost of this year’s book will be $65 and will available
through the website at Josten’s Yearbook Company, the publisher of
the SJJ Yearbook. A notice will be sent out after school begins that
will have instructions and options for you to purchase the book.
Plan now to purchase your son’s memories of his high school year.
Thank you.
