Name:____________________________ Pd. __________ Cell Travel Brochure URGENT! The Eukaryotic Board of Transportation needs your help! You will produce a travel brochure that describes your travel destination (Ex: a high-class resort, an amusement park, sports arena, factory etc.), which should be modeled after a plant cell. You must accurately describe/paste/draw and explain at least 7 points of interest that are found in your travel destination (each represents an organelle found in a plant cell). Use the list below for the organelles and justify how the points of interest represent their functions in a cell. The associated drawings or pasted graphics must include the object the organelle represents, as well as a drawing/pasting of the actual organelle. You may neatly draw and color your organelles using markers, colored pencils, paint, or crayons or use colored pictures from a magazine or computer. However, keep in mind that part of your grade is based upon neatness! **If you are NOT an artist…I do NOT suggest this option** Requirements: Your brochure must fit a standard size of paper (8 1/2 x 11) and all six flaps must be covered. You must include an overall map of the attractions: o Include the cell organelle structures with labels or a key on a map o Overall description of why people should visit each “attraction” (organelle). This should be at least 2-3 sentences. Organelles of choice: nucleus, cell membrane, central vacuole, mitochondria, cytoplasm, cell wall, and chloroplasts (You MUST use all seven organelles—anything less will be a deduction in points.) o Information about organelle NEEDS to be accurate. For each organelle in your brochure, you must do THREE things: 1. Describe the attraction. (1-2 sentences) 2. Explain your analogy how the attraction/amenity/point of interest relates to the function of that organelle. (2 3 sentences) Example: If I were describing a cell to be like a castle… Protection is essential in every castle. The drawbridge entrance to the castle could be compared to the cell membrane in a plant cell. The drawbridge allows what comes in and out of the castle, much like the cell membrane does in a plant cell. The drawbridge provides a sense of protection and safety for its people, much like the cell membrane does for the other organelles in a plant cell. 3. Pictures that illustrate your attraction/cell organelle. This will grab your audience’s attention. They may either be illustrated from hand or taken from the computer. Please be as creative, artistic and humorous as much as you like while remaining accurate. The brochure must be colorful, neat and easy to read with minimal/no spelling errors. Make your work look professional. Remember, your goal is to attract tourists! Some Helpful Ideas: -Hotel -Sports Arena -Mall -Museum -Amusement Park Learning Target: I am able to accurately make comparisons between cell organelles/their functions to a place of my choice using my creativity. I will be able to identify the organelles of the plant cell and their functions.
