Instructions for the Carey UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. To begin using the Carey UV-Vis spectrophotometer, turn on the instrument first and let it warm up for about 20 minutes. The instrument is operated using the Cary in UV software. There is an icon on the desktop. To begin, click on the CaryWin UV software icon on the desktop. The program gives you many different methods to run, in most cases for most general experiments, the scan mode will be utilized. These instructions are for the scan mode. Click on the scan mode. The program and instrument will take a second to be synchronized. Once this is done, click on the zero tab to the left of the screen. You will be prompted to prepare your sample, place your blank sample in the sample holder then close the cover and click ok. The instrument will now zero itself. Place your sample in the second slot and leave your blank sample in the sample slot. Click on run. You will be prompted to save your sample, designate a location to save your sample and pick a sample name then click OK. Note: You have to save your sample before running it. The instrument will now scan the sample. When the wavelength changes from the visible to UV wavelength there will be some noise do not be alarmed. When finished close the software then turn off the instrument.
