There are many ways in which you can help at home, including reading traditional tales and discussing their significance, finding out about different traditional tales in different cultures and the dilemmas in each one. The Science and Design Technology the topic relates to forces and magnets associated with our topic looking at the force used in the fairy tale ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Asking your child questions about what they have learned and ensuring that they can give a thorough explanation, will help them to further their understanding. HERBERT MORRISON PRIMARY SCHOOL Information for Parents in Year Remember to sit with your child and read through spellings and involve them in your reading – checking and looking for any spelling patterns and punctuation they are learning to use and recognise. Please give your child opportunities to read aloud, helping them with correct pronunciation and good use of expression. Asking them questions about the story that they have read will help their understanding. Do you read your child a story each night? Can you remember a story from your childhood that your mother or father told you? Would you be willing to come in and share this with the class? Discuss how stories can change as they are handed down through the generations. Visit the library to look for stories and poetry related to the topics. Please take a look at the mental starters for Mathematics, these are repeated and built on throughout the term. When shopping ask your child to help you add up the bill, ask them how much change they would get when buying an item and how long the shopping trip will be. Always keep maths practical, through cards, dominoes and board games (such as battleships and monopoly). Please practise times tables and number bonds with them. Keep it fun!
