As a national theatre, the NT takes responsibility for fostering the health of the wider British theatre. Purpose of Job This is a hands-on role, based in the NT sound & video department. The Assets & Facilities Manager is responsible for procurement, compliance, management, storage, test, repair and maintenance of all fixed and portable sound and video equipment as well as the management of the sound studios, pre-visualisation studios and broadcast and digital (B&D) suites. The Assets & Facilities Manager will evaluate the sound and video department assets management software, making recommendations for its development or replacement as required. With the Events, Access & Facilities Technician, The Assets & Facilities Manager will develop systems and procedures for the cost-effective deployment of equipment for NT Access and other non-commercial and commercial events across the NT, on The Deck and elsewhere. You will plan and implement a programme of rolling maintenance and capital replacement, taking an active role in the testing and repair of sound, video, broadcast and digital equipment across the building. You will work collaboratively with the Head of Sound & Video and the Resources Manager towards modernising and standardising NT working practices so that the procurement, deployment and maintenance and use of assets and facilities is constantly tracked and regularly analysed. This is an opportunity to develop and define a new role within the NT and will suit someone with a creative mind and outstanding fault finding and problem solving skills Responsibilities To manage the provision and service of sound, video and other equipment for National Theatre productions and events with the NT, on tour and in the West End as required. To evaluate and develop strategies for the cost effective purchase and deployment of equipment and assets across the NT. To implement and manage the PAT electrical safety programme for the Sound and Video Department, supervising and training staff where necessary. To evaluate, develop, implement and supervise the use of systems to track, locate, maintain, test and record sound, video and associated equipment used throughout the organisation. To manage the procurement of audio, video and other equipment and consumables. To manage, to component level when appropriate, the maintenance of all production-based sound, video and communication equipment within the Sound and Video Departments’ remit. To oversee correct maintenance procedures and to advise and supervise sound & video department staff in correct maintenance and repair procedures. To work within the National Theatre or on NT productions and events elsewhere as required. To ensure that adequate spares are stocked sufficient to maintain or replace equipment for which responsibility is held. To ensure that equipment manuals and equipment technical drawings are available and up to date. To have an understanding of all software systems used in the sound and video department and to have a detailed understanding of performance-critical systems and software. To run and maintain the NT Recording Studios, NT Visualisation Suites and B&D editing suites. To assist in running and maintaining the sound department IT networks. To assist with the provision and maintenance of technical facilities for those with hearing and sight impairment, by liaising with and maintaining outstanding relations with the Access department. To assist with the provision of audio and video requirements for all commercial and non-commercial events within the National Theatre. To support operational staff in the design and manufacture of sound and video related props and effects. To support and assist other technical departments and the Technical Management as required. To deliver, with the other members of the resources team and the sound and video operations managers, the standby or duty role. To liaise and maintain outstanding relations with all other departments across the organisation. To liaise, develop and maintain good relations with suppliers and contractors. To undertake training deemed necessary by your manager and apply it in the workplace. To maintain an outstanding relationship with the NT Studio and provide advice and assistance to the technical department when necessary. Person Specification The post-holder must have the following: A proactive, flexible, collaborative and conscientious approach to work with an open mind to new or different ways of working. Substantial experience as a workshop manager or similar within a sound or AV hire or similar environment preferably serving the theatre industry. A comprehensive understanding and experience of the use and operation of audio and video equipment. Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to prioritise to meet conflicting demands within a complex environment. Outstanding IT skills with substantial experience of the use and development of asset tracking or similar system software. A degree or appropriate qualification and significant demonstrable experience in the field of audio engineering or related sciences. Ability to work effectively alone or collaboratively as part of the sound and video team and other departments as required. Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with colleagues and staff at all levels. Supervisory and team leadership skills and experience. Budgetary and cost-management skills. The ability to listen and counsel. Outline of Terms and Conditions TITLE OF POST: ASSETS AND FACILITIES MANAGER HOURS: 40 hours per week, 09:00 – 18:00. Additional evening hours and occasional weekends as required. SALARY: CIRCA £36,000-£41,000 negotiable per annum. ANNUAL LEAVE: 28 days in the first year (including Bank Holidays), increasing with length of service thereafter. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 6 months. NOTICE PERIOD: 1 month during probationary period, 3 months thereafter. PENSION: The National Theatre operates a Stakeholder Pension scheme with Legal & General.
