Job Description Job Title: Communications Specialist – Social Media Submit Resume to: Recruiting@spe.org SUMMARY The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association whose members are engaged in energy resources development and production. SPE serves more than 143,000 members in 118 countries worldwide. SPE is a key resource for technical knowledge related to the oil and gas exploration and production industry and provides services through its publications, events, training courses, and online resources. SPE is seeking an experienced digital and social communications specialist to further SPE’s digital media footprint. This person would be responsible for executing digital media strategies that support SPE’s strategic communications goals and branding efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience in community management, social media marketing campaigns, and online listening/monitoring. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Builds brand awareness through developing and executing SPE’s global social media strategy Works in close partnership with web, communications, marketing, events, and membership teams to help drive SPE’s overall communications strategy Leads organic content development, scheduling, targeting and distribution for worldwide audience. This includes development of social media campaigns, contests, promotions, and other incentives to keep online communities actively engaged Creates original social media content for the SPE and its initiatives/programs, including infographics, lists, videos, quizzes, graphics, and other engaging media. Oversees SPE community management by managing online conversations, discussions, messages, tweets, and other direct correspondence Educates and assists SPE members and staff about social media guidelines and best practices. Helps convey the importance, operation, and successful participation of social media on all business levels Works with SPE Public Relations Manager to monitor SPE online reputation management as well as emerging trends, social media mentions, or other industryrelated topics of interest Conducts monthly tracking and measurement reports Implements new and emerging social media programs relevant to our audience and goals as necessary Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Social Media: Strong background using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Instagram and the technical functions of each. Particularly adept at community management for LinkedIn groups. Solid understanding of social media marketing campaigns (ads, sponsored updates, paid posts) and audience targeting. Job Description Comfortable using online tools such as Hootsuite, Storify, and/or other social media resources. Working knowledge of Google Analytics is preferred. Digital Media: Ideal candidate will have background experience with graphic design, video production and experience publishing / maintaining a blog Marketing and Communications Management: Understands and applies marketing and communications principles, and recommends creative approaches to meet project objectives; has ability to manage projects from concept to production, including overseeing schedules and budgets. Writing skills: Superior interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; writes and oversees the creative development of online content for programs, events, and general SPE promotion. Uses writing and editing skills for a variety of online communications projects. Presents complex concepts or information in an interesting and engaging writing style for multiple audiences Time Management: Exceptional initiative & follow-through skills; manages priorities to ensure on-time delivery of multiple projects with competing deadlines simultaneously. Project Management: Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, team-based environment is critical; works with many different people in different departments and functions, local and long distance; keeps projects on track; develop alternative plans in the event of potential roadblocks. Communication: Applies effective listening and communication skills and proactively distribute information necessary to ensure understanding of projects, goals, or actions. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Computer: Employs strong computer skills (email, Outlook calendar, Internet and intranet environments, Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Other: Strong self-starter who thinks on his/her feet to solve problems. Ability to recommend, and initiate work and projects with minimal direction; Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, exceptional initiative and follow-through skills EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, advertising, public relations or related field. Minimum of five years’ relevant communications experience. Oil and gas industry experience helpful.
