TITLE OF JOB : CATERING ASSISTANT GRADE : H2 1. JOB OUTLINE 1 a) REASON JOB EXISTS To undertake, under the general direction of the Cook Manager, operations connected with the preparation and cooking of meals. 1 b) MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBLITY To assist the cook in the preparation, cooking and serving of meals. To assist the cook in maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen in accordance with catering standards. All non-routine decisions are referred upwards and to the Head teacher. 4. JOB CONTEXT The jobholder is one of a team of catering staff who provide meal services to the school. The work is varied but has a number of daily and weekly routines. 5. CONTACTS The jobholder works with children and all members of staff in the school, along with suppliers of food and maintenance staff. Professionalism and confidentiality remains paramount at all times. 6. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Food Hygiene Certificate (training given). Knowledge or experience of working in a catering environment. Knowledge of health and safety good practice in the kitchen. Catering Assistant 7. PROBLEMS AND DECISIONS In the absence of another member of staff, the postholder would need to take part in covering the roles and responsibilities of other catering staff, working as an integral part of the catering team. 8. PHYSICAL EFFORT The job requires some lifting, stacking of foodstuffs, lifting large cooking utensils and moving kitchen equipment which may be heavy. 9. WORKING ENVIRONMENT Frequent exposure to high temperatures and steam. Contact with hot substances, ovens and hot plates. Use of kitchen equipment. Exposure to noise from dishwashers and other equipment. 10.
