National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) 2015/16 Who is the programme for? You should be in a leadership role with cross-school responsibilities, or be about to take on a substantive senior leader role, in a primary, secondary or special school. You should not only have responsibility for leading a team, but also be involved in a range of activities that affect the whole school organisation. It is aimed at senior leaders including deputy/assistant heads, SENCo, or ASTs who are looking for professional development, but not aspiring to headship at this stage of their career. NPQSL will help you to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence that you need to be a highly effective senior leader in a school. What is involved? Completion of two essential modules (delivered in Ealing) and two further study modules( delivered at the IOE). The two essential modules are completed in the Autumn and Spring terms. Each module requires up to 50 hours of blended learning. This includes workplace learning, face-toface activity, including peer and facilitated learning, reading, reflection and online learning. Each module involves two days of face to face delivery – the sessions in Ealing are usually from 9.302.30pm. At the IOE they may be full or half days, Saturdays or twilights (8 days in total). Leadership diagnostic: online self and 360 review of leadership competencies at the beginning and end of the process. The programme is assessed against the development of leadership competencies. Support from an in school Leadership Development Adviser/ Coach. Final assessment task: leading a school improvement priority across the school: This task will enable you to demonstrate that you can lead across the school to deliver successful and sustainable school improvement and that you can use the experience to reflect upon and improve your own leadership competencies. NPQSL is assessed externally and awarded by the National College. The assessment is submitted in set assessment windows to an independent organisation EMLC www.emlc.co.uk The programme lasts between 6 and 18 months with 12 months as the average for completion Who delivers the programme? The face to face element of the essential modules are delivered by practising senior leaders from Ealing schools who have been trained and accredited as facilitators by the NCTL. The sessions are delivered in Ealing schools. The programme is being coordinated by the Ealing Teaching School Alliance in partnership with the LA. The further study modules will be delivered at the IOE. The programme modules The two essential modules are Closing the Gap and Succeeding in Senior Leadership. In addition, two further study modules must be chosen from a range of options: A brief summary of the module contents is attached. Places We are offering 24 places in the first instance on a first come, first served basis. The group will be cross phase. Cost The cost per participant for NPQSL for 2015/16 is £930. This includes a ‘scholarship’ from NCTL of £158 and a further discount negotiated with IOE. The full fee without discounts is £1400. Single elective modules are £350.
