I would be very happy to give you any assistance in my humble power about the Tarbert
Volunteers of 1782 and the Lindsay family in Kerry at that time but unfortunately I am not able
to do more than to suggest you should search the Munster Correspondence on military matters in
that year which is I believe in the Public record Office Dublin in the four Courts. You can see
any document in the Office Gratis and will get desk pen and ink to copy it in the room there
allotted to searchers for historical and genealogical purposed. Searches for legal purposes must
pay fees but historical and genealogical enquirers on stating their purposes can under Lord
Romilly’s Act ask for and see gratis any document they require.
Dr Latouche MORIA – Deputy Keeper of the Records and his assistant Mr H Berry and others of
the staff are very obliging and give every help in searches, permissible by the rules .
I think that a Miss Blennerhassett daughter of the Rev John Blennerhassett Rector of Tralee in
1760-1798 married a William Lindsay of Tarbert and surviving him died at a great age some
twenty or thirty years ago at Tarbert. I never saw her but friends of min knew her very well in
1860-70. The descendent of her sister is now Mrs James Fuller C.E. who has an office in Dublin
and a residence near Kenmare in Kerry. He is very fond of searching into Kerry history and
genealogy and may be able to give you some information. I enclose his addresses in Dublin &
Kerry. His first cousin Mr Hilliard whose address I also enclose knew old Mr Lindsay and has a
great deal of M S notes on Kerry history left by his brother the late William Hilliard.
Miss Rowan Princes Street Tralee has also a valuable collection of MSS on Kerry history and
genealogy wihc belonged to her father Archdeacon rowan. I have some notes of his on the Kerry
volunteers of 1782 but they only refer to Tralee Clanmaur…. & south Kerry – there is no mention
in there of Sir Edward Leslie. I think he had command of a troop of Yeomanry in 1797 –
Playfairs family Antiquity of Great Gritain & Ireland tells a good deal about him.
Regretting very much I cannot give you better information on the subject in which you are
interested.
