The People started grumbling about Jesus because he said, “I am the bread that came down from Heaven.”
(John 6:4)
During the Great Depression of the 1930s, a monastery gave out plain sandwiches in paper bags every afternoon at 5.00. The line of people was always long.
After getting their sandwich some people ate it at once. Others ate only a portion of it and saved the rest for later. Still others took the sandwich home to someone in their family.
Finally, a few grumbled at the plainness of the sandwich and tossed it away.
The people’s reaction to the sandwich could be used as an example of the way people reacted to Jesus,
“the bread that came down from heaven.”
How do I react to Jesus in the Eucharist?
How do I prepare to receive the Eucharist?
How do I follow up my reception of the Eucharist?
Pope St Leo the Great said –
“The effect of our receiving the body and blood of Christ is to change us into what we receive.”
