Annunciation Parish @ Saint Gabriel Church March 31, 2013 EASTER SUNDAY Pastors Thoughts The celebration of Easter is the spiritually most important Christian event of the year. Since it celebrates the completion of our Redemption, the promise of an eternal glorious life purchased at the price of the shed blood of Jesus, the Son of God, it should be celebrated with joy and gratitude and renewed enthusiastic living of our Catholic Faith, which is the means by which we will receive what Christ has won. Every Easter we relive the moment when, by the divine power which is His, Christ rises from the tomb, not just alive again, but transformed by grace, a greater and better life which He will share with His faithful children. May His saving work not go unheeded by us! At Easter time we often can be drawn into celebrating the arrival of spring (for which we may still have to wait a bit…) and even some of the more recent commercial customs like the appearance of the easter bunny and the annual egg hunt. While all these things may have a place in our lives, don’t forget that it all started with the Son of God whose Passion, Death and Resurrection changes all things. That is a truth the world needs to hear more and more. Many people in our country and our world see our Faith as hopelessly out of touch, impossible to live, and generally unproductive - thus they seek to minimize and marginalize it. Sadly they fail to see that Christ’s way of living by faith in the power of His grace and showing it in love is the real way to change and improve this world - and guarantee a glorious unending future even beyond this world. May our celebration of Easter be joyful and spiritually centered so that we can show the world the beauty of the truth!
