Worthington Fire Protection District Trustee Meeting Minutes August 20, 2008 Attendees: Melissa Ames, Shannon Davis, Kevin Groody, Dan Clark, William Cohen, Rick Lusardo, Greg Davis, Assistant Chief Dellis Absent: Chief Gary Yurt, Kevin Tyler Guests: Sergeant Jon Cooke The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Chairman Ames. Secretary's Report A motion was made by Dan Clark and seconded by Shannon Davis to approve the July meeting minutes. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report Due to several corrections to July’s financials, a motion to approve was postponed. Standing Committees Audit – A three (3) year bid was received by Cotton + Allen to conduct our audit. A motion was made by Dan Clark and seconded by Rick Lusardo to approve one-year of audits by them. Motion carried. Human Resources – No report given. Budget / Financial – Chairman Ames advised that a committee chair is needed. Long-term Planning – No report given. Political Action – No report given. Chief’s Report Assistant Chief Dellis advised that we received an award at the Fire Rescue International (FRI) in Denver, CO. The award was from TargetSafety and presented to Major Kevin Groody and Captain Tim Rice, who were there for training, for 100% participation and completion of on-line training for the department. _______________________________________________________________________________ Worthington Fire Protection District Page 1 of 2 Minutes – August 20, 2008 Meeting As per requested by Kevin Tyler, our SOPs have been updated with regard to EMS responses to staffed medical facilities. Lots of new building construction including Norton Healthcare and the Hilton Garden Inn, and the completion of a 499-foot cell tower off of Hitt Lane, which will be utilized by MetroSafe as a repeater site. Our 2nd Annual Open House will be on Sunday, October 12 at both stations. A graduation ceremony took place for five Recruits – 2 will be assigned to Station 2 and 3 to Station 3. The next Recruit Class will begin on September 23. Sergeant Jamie Hundley attended Fire Camp in Sacramento, CA. He intends to implement the first fire camp in Kentucky, at WFD. The Command Staff has been meeting to discuss strategic plans for the department to identify the needs of our community between now and the next five years. No additional updates of the widening of Hwy 22 are known at this time, pending legal issues. Old Business Sergeant Cooke was in attendance again to present a video on the PETZL and to field a Q/A session. A decision to approve the capital expenditure on the personal safety device will be tabled until the next meeting. Chairman Ames asked that Shannon Davis review the proposed accounting position job description. Station 1 Assistant Chief Dellis advised that we are “above ground”. Footers have been poured for the bay area and block work is scheduled to start this week. All construction updates are now accessible via the website. New Business A motion was made by Shannon Davis and seconded by William Cohen to enter into Executive session at 8:37 pm. Motion carried.
