Associated Press 05-07-06 Ames seeks‘Homeland’test facility By The Associated Press AMES, Iowa (AP) — Ames is in the running for a $500 million facility that would test foreign animal diseases. A group led by Iowa State University submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that could make Ames the new home for a new National bio- and agro-defense facility. The facility would house between 300 and 400 researchers, scientists, technicians along with support staff. The annual payroll would be about $30 million. Ames is one of 29 sites across the country that is vying for the new facility.
