Job purpose
This is a full time fixed term post until 30/10/2016 to support experimental work
on the Ford/Advanced Propulsion Centre funded ACTIVE project within the
Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre.
The role will entail:
- Mechanical and electrical design and installation of instrumentation and
control systems
- Setup of data logging hard- and software
- Calibration of instrumentation
- Fault Finding on measurement and control systems
- Assisting in the analysis of data
- Assisting in the writing of technical publications
- Managing purchasing stocking and maintenance of highly specialised
instrumentation suites

Main duties and responsibilities
Responsible to the PI/CIs of the project

Research Support: Provide experimental/technical support for the
specification, design, installation, calibration and maintenance of
instrumentation and control suites. Assist in the planning/running of
experiments and the analysis of data.

Technical Support: Keep up to date with new technologies for

sensing and control applications that support research

Teamwork Work with technicians, PhD students and research fellows
within the Powertrain and vehicle research centre and across the
department of Mechanical engineering.

Liaison: informally on a day to day basis with technicians and
academic staff and industrial partners as required

Planning and organising Plan and schedule own tasks. Help to
prioritise use of facilities and resources

Analysis and Research: Assist in the analysis of research data and
the managing efficient data storage for future use.

Work environement: Responsible for continuous awareness of health
and safety and clean and efficient workspaces ensuring high standards
are maintained within the work environment

Team Development: No specific duties

Dissemination: Assist in the preparation of: research papers (journal
and conference) and reports to industrial partners
You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature
as reasonably required by your line manager.

take account of University guidance.
