Job Description Job title: Department/School: Grade: Location: Experimental Officer Mechanical Engineering 6 Claverton Down Campus Job purpose This post will support the specification, procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of experimental facilities for turbochargers and turbocharging research within the Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre. The role will entail: - Reviewing available instrumentation systems - Overseeing Installation of instrumentation suites - Selection and Procurement of instrumentation hardware - Commissioning and maintaining of instrumentation suite - Conducting experiments on engine and turbocharger test facilities - Managing efficient data storage for analysis and retrieval purposes - Assisting in the analysis of data - Assisting in the writing of technical publications Source and nature of management provided Line Manager: Dr S Akehurst Co-supervision: Dr R Burke, Dr C Copeland, Prof C Brace Staff management responsibility Liaison with technicians. Main duties and responsibilities 1 Research Support: Provide experimental/technical support for the specification, design and development, installation, commissioning and maintaining of instrumentation suites. Provide software and hardware support Assist in designing, set-up and running of experiments. 2 Technical Support: Keep up to date with new technologies that support research 3 Teamwork Work with technicians, PhD students and research fellows Page 1 within the Powertrain and vehicle research centre and across the department of Mechanical engineering. 4 Liaison: informally on a day to day basis with technicians and academic staff and industrial partners as required 5 Planning and organising Helping to prioritise experiments and use of facilities and resources 6 Analysis and Research: Assist in the analysis of research data. Managing efficient data storage for future use. 7 Work environment: Health and safety in experimental facilities 8 Team Development: No specific duties 9 Pastoral care and Welfare: Responsible for continuous awareness of health and safety and clean and efficient workspaces ensuring high standards are maintained within the work environment 10 Dissemination: Assist in the preparation of: research papers (journal and conference) and reports to industrial partners You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by your line manager.
