Engineering, Architecture & Information Technology Faculty Workshop Group DUTY STATEMENT: HEW6 Senior Technical Officer - Instrumentation Primary Purpose of Position This position supports undergraduate and research activities associated with the complete design, construction, maintenance and implementation of instrumented equipment. The position also provides support to technical staff and users of the Instrumentation Workshop. Duties Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Supervisory Assist Workshop Supervisor with management of workload, logistic and administrative tasks to support efficient operation of workshop facilities and deputise for the position in their absence, and Provide supervision of student work areas within Instrumentation Workshop. Technical Develop and maintain undergraduate experimental equipment that meets teaching and learning imperatives; Document equipment design, modification and repairs to a level sufficient to enable subsequent construction and maintenance by other personnel; Design, fabrication and repair of electronic equipment; Assist undergraduate students with design and construction of apparatus for thesis and major design and build projects; Provide instruction in instrumentation, test & fabrication techniques to students and staff; Keep abreast with technological developments, computerised equipment and software in the area of electronic design and instrumentation, and Participate in the regular maintenance and improvement of workshop facilities, with particular focus on modernisation and occupational health and safety. Occupational Health and Safety Conduct workshop inductions for new staff, students and visitors; Perform Risk Assessments on activities undertaken to fulfil the role in accordance with the University’s Risk Management System (see the University’s website at http://www.uq.edu.au/ohs/index.html?page=29960), and Comply with requirements of Queensland occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation and related OH&S responsibilities and procedures developed by the University or Faculty Unit.
