Electrical Maintenance and Systems Supervisor


Position Scope
 The scope of this position covers all electrical equipment, control systems, and
instrumentation equipment in the plant, including the main substation and all computers
and office equipment
Responsibilities
 Health & Safety
o Exercise Visible, Felt Leadership (VFL) in the field on a daily basis
o Apply the Contractor Safety Management standard to all contracted work and
ensure all contractor employees are supervised with regards to Lafarge practices
and the regulations of British Columbia
o Promote electrical safety and safe work practices in the workplace with all site
employees and contractors
o Maintenance of knowledge of current requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code
o Participate in development and implementation of health & safety rules and
procedures
o Ensure adequate supply of OH&S equipment and supplies, availability of safety and
emergency procedures, and proper working environment and conditions
 People, Organization, and Community Development
o Build a high-performance electrical maintenance & systems team through focus on
the development of personnel
o Responsible to supervise, motivate, train, and educate the Electrical and
Instrumentation Technicians to maximize their productivity and the quality of their
work
o Administer the collective agreement as required
o Training of plant personnel on electrical and systems operation that relates to their
functions
o Review and streamline work methods (schedules, SOPs, Best Practices) in order to
minimize cost & improve efficiency
o Liaison with other department heads to ensure that the health & safety,
maintenance, process, quality, environment, and administrative aspects of the
operation pertaining to the electrical maintenance & systems department meet the
plant objectives
o Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of environmental control equipment
such as kiln and vent stack emissions monitors, plant water PH monitors, etc
 Performance & Innovation
o Promote electrical preventative and predictive maintenance programs,
including conducting systematic inspections on all plant electrical equipment,
collecting quantitative data and ensuring its organization and analysis using a variety
of traditional as well as technically advanced diagnostic tools
o

Assess the condition of the process and machinery accurately, assess risk and
identify the appropriate corrective actions based on technical analysis and risk
management
o Provide technical support for Electrical Maintenance & Systems Technicians
o Provide information of products to solve unique problems
o Responsible for the accurate documentation of electrical schematics and stores
spare parts inventory and for maintaining equipment files and history up-to-date
o Provide assistance in the electrical design and execution of plant capital projects
o Participate in defining, developing, and executing equipment and process
modifications to improve health & safety, reliability, and / or reduce costs
o Develop control programs or modification to existing programs for all field
programmable logic controllers (PLC's) and maintain all associated documentation
in a current state.
o Control the use and co-ordinate the work of outside services
o Remain up-to-date on new technologies and techniques in this field
o Use Maximo preventive maintenance program as applicable
o Coordinate plant and BC Hydro maintenance outages
o Prepare and adhere to the electrical maintenance & systems budget
o Propose modifications or capital expenditures in order to maintain and improve
health & safety, productivity, and plant working conditions
o Procure all required parts, tools, and equipment for work, using multiple purchasing
avenues including credit card and Enterprise ONE ERP
Qualifications
o Education
 Post-secondary education at a technical college or equivalent
o Experience
 Minimum five years heavy industry electrical and instrumentation experience
 Minimum five years supervisory experience
 Work experience in a high voltage environment
 Work experience in a union environment
o Technical Certification
 Canadian Red Seal certification as an Industrial Electrician and / or an
Instrumentation and Control Technician with work experience as an electrician
o Technical and General Skills, Knowledge, and Ability
 Knowledge of British Columbia electrical and industrial health & safety
techniques and practices
 Strong leadership and communication skills
 Work well in a team environment
 Well-organized and good ability to prioritize
 Knowledge of industrial electrical maintenance best practices and techniques
 Knowledge of industrial automation and control systems
 Good mechanical aptitude

Ability to work in an industrial environment that may include dust, heat, loud
noise, work at heights, work in confined spaces, etc
