COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Digital Photography is a one- semester fine arts elective offered to students in grades 10
through 12. The course introduces the use of digital processing for the purposes of
enhancing photographic imagery both as a corrective device and as a means of creative
expression. Modern art forms will be explored through the use of digital imaging software
programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Students will create a variety
of projects utilizing digital cameras, scanners and other input devices as well as
traditional materials with an emphasis on the elements and principles of design. Digital
Photography offers students a creative hands-on approach to photography and artwork
in the rapidly growing field of technology. A student lab fee will be assessed at
registration. The course offers a pass/grade option.

EXPECTATION FROM STUDENTS:
After successfully completing this course, the student will understand that:
1. Computer technology can be utilized as an effective means of communicating ideas
and self-expression.
2. Digital art production utilizes many techniques and skills that require basic art
fundamentals and applications.
3. Planning, decision-making and critical-thinking are all important components in
today’s work environment.
4. Art is created using a wide variety of applications and tools.
5. Technology has expanded and enhanced careers in visual art.

Welcome back to a brand new year at Bremen High School!!
This course was designed to provide you with an overview of photography and the digital
manipulation and editing process. No prior knowledge of art is required. Make your
time here memorable by putting forth your best effort. You will be busy in this class
every day but hopefully, each project will be fun for you!
You do not need your own camera, but it is helpful if you would like to use your
own device for taking digital images. All assignments will be edited in the computer lab
here at school. Most all photography will be taken during class time, unless otherwise
noted. Please keep this syllabus for future reference. Make sure that you read through it
and if there is anything that you don’t understand, PLEASE ASK!
You have my promise that I will be in class and readily on time each day. I will
also assure you that I am more than willing to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Clear
communication is very important for achievement in learning. If you need to speak with
me, please feel free to do so. My door is always open! A successful classroom is one
that has teamwork. Together we can make this a great learning experience for everyone.

Earn Your Right to be Successful in this Class!!!!

Please fill out and sign turn in the paper copy of the #228 Equipment Usage
policy with parent/guardian signatures. This form is mandated by #228.

Attend class each day on time.

Please, do NOT talk when the teacher is speaking, especially when you are
hearing directions and watching demonstrations. After this part of class time is
completed, you may talk quietly when you are working on your art. 

Respect yourself and everyone else in your classroom.

All artwork must be school appropriate which means no images or symbols that
use or relate to alcohol, drugs, gangs and/or weapons.

All district computer rules and usage agreements apply in this class.

PHOTO-PASS EXPECTATIONS: You are expected and required to be on your
best and most courteous behavior, as well as following all school rules, while you
are on a photo assignment and utilizing a photo-pass. Any disruption or failure to
follow procedures will result in a consequence as well as a revoke of photo-pass
privileges and alternative assignments will be given.

Make sure you have a class hall pass when “on assignment” outside the room.

You are responsible for proper handling and care of the equipment used in this
class, when it is in your possession. (cameras, USB cables, memory cards, lights,
etc.)

Always clean up your work station after you have finished creating for the day.
Be responsible for your belongings and the equipment that you have in your
possession.

Think of SAFETY! Use your common sense so that no one gets hurt.

Relax and enjoy this moment in your life. Art is truly a fun time!
YOU HAVE TO WORK VERY HARD AT FAILING POORLY
IN THIS CLASS.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Projects: All projects are due on their assigned date. Late work will be your
responsibility to make up. There are exceptions only for excused absences.
Art Supplies: The school will provide access to all necessary equipment. You do NOT
need to purchase or provide a camera for this course.
USB Drives: This is very useful to have in order to transfer/save your files but not
mandatory. Please do not use an external drive that houses executable apps (.exe files).
These apps/programs are most likely not authorized by #228 and will infringe the 228
computer usage policy.
Mobile Devices and Technology Usage: Students may use their own Internet access for
research and other art-related tasks. You may listen to music with your own individual
headphones, when I am not instructing to the entire class and you are working quietly on
your art project/assignment.

Your personal property is your responsibility to monitor. Never leave anything of
value unattended. Keep all electronic devices and their accessories, chargers,
cables, etc. to yourselves. It’s a good thing to be discreet.

There is no audio/visual recording allowed in this class, only still photography.

Please mute all notifications during class.
Homework: Photo assignments and digital projects will be completed in class. This is
why your attendance is SO important!!
Maintenance: All lab rules apply to this class. No eating or drinking at any time!
Grades: At any time during the year, you can look at your grades. I keep grades up-todate in PowerSchool. You will receive grade sheets for every project based on a 25-point
scale. The quarter and semester grading scales are as follows:
100-90=A
89-80 =B
79-70 =C
69-60 =D
59 or below= Failing

in your student handbook apply in this classroom at all times.
Swift action will result if there are any deviations from these
school regulations.~~

convenience and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

In order for your child to use school-owned equipment for this class, he/she must
have the paper copy of the #228 Equipment Usage Policy with parent/guardian
signatures filled out and returned to me ASAP. We are asking ALL students
enrolled in this course, to complete this form, to have on file in the event that they
have to use school equipment.
