Creation Myth
In 5000 years, people will wonder how the ancient civilization of _________________ was
formed. Luckily, its inhabitants (you) created myths to explain how the world began.
Write your own creation myth that will explain the formation of the world. Before you make
decisions about the god(s) (or lack thereof), decide what kind of civilization you wish to create.
Remember, natural disasters and climate often related to the beliefs of the people.
Your myth should address the following:






Creation of the earth, including elements of nature
The name of your civilization
Creation of plants and/or animals
Creation of humans
Gods/goddesses (if none, you should include some ruler or animal figure)
Way of life/culture
Your myth should be a minimum of two pages, double-spaced in MLA format.
The voice should be similar to the creation myths we have studied in class. Think about the
literary devices (personification, epithets, metaphor, etc.) used in those stories.
Give your creation myth a creative title (more than “Creation Myth”).
Be creative and have fun!
