Safe Work Procedure Title and basic description
Title:
Movement of goods within Lowy Cancer Research Building
Description: The movement of laboratory goods and equipment (expect Liquid Nitrogen) from the store and ground
floor reception into the laboratories.
Associated risk assessment title and location: Movement of goods within Lowy Research Building (RA) located on
Medicine OHS web site
Describe the activity or process
Picking up goods from either the Bio-Medical store or the ground floor reception of Lowy Cancer Research Building
and transporting them to the laboratories.
Most goods should arrive in the stores or reception correctly packaged, if not the laboratory must provide doubled
containment.
All dangerous good must be doubled contained for transport. (Please note: foam esky cannot be used as primary or
secondary containment.)
All Radioactive material to be appropriately shielded according to AS/NZS 2243.4, prior to movement within Lowy
Cancer Research Building
All personnel transporting hazardous goods must be trained on appropriate clean up procedures.
All heavy and bulky goods must be moved on trolleys
List all resources required including plant,
chemicals, personal protective clothing and
equipment, etc
Trolley
MSDS of the goods
Training in manual handling and spill cleanup procedure
Secondary containment if not already provided
