Summary of the broad purpose of the position, and its responsibilities/duties Responsible to the Director, ICU, for the provision of clinical services in the Intensive Care Unit ___________________________________________________________________________ 2. Reporting, Working Relationships ___________________________________________________________________________ Reports to the Consultants of the Intensive Care Unit ___________________________________________________________________________ 3. Special Conditions ___________________________________________________________________________ Participation in rosters covering day, night and weekend work. ___________________________________________________________________________ 4. Statement of Key Responsibilities/Duties ___________________________________________________________________________ Provide medical services in the ICU to ensure the highest standard of patient care. Liaise with other relevant departments in matters pertaining to the provision of clinical care in the ICU. Ensure that every patient admitted to the ICU has a thorough formal assessment and management plan fashioned in consultation with the ICU specialists. Ensure that every patient in ICU is seen at least twice daily, or more if required and that medical record entries to this effect are accurate, legible and contemporaneous. Comply with clinical protocols, standards of care and treatment strategies as directed by the Director ICU. Participation in Medical Emergency, Cardiac Arrest and Trauma teams Participation in professional development activities, educational programs, audits and research. ____________________________________________________________________________ 5. PERSON SPECIFICATION ___________________________________________________________________________ Essential Minimum Requirements ___________________________________________________________________________ Educational / Vocational Qualifications ___________________________________________________________________________ Must have an MBBS or equivalent degree acceptable for registration with the Medical Board of South Australia. At least two years clinical experience (ie PGY3 or above) ___________________________________________________________________________ Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills Ability to relate well to other medical practitioners, other health professionals and the public. Ability to work harmoniously as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to make accurate, rapid, reasoned decisions regarding patient care. Ability to be trained in basic intensive care procedures. Ability to perform tracheal intubation/advanced airway management. Advanced Life Support skills are preferred. ___________________________________________________________________________ Experience Experience in hospital/health related setting. ___________________________________________________________________________ Knowledge A good clinical knowledge of acute care medicine which is suited to ICU or anaesthetic practice.
