There will be some days that challenge you, but you need to rise up to the challenge and not crumble. My college math professor, Dr. Karantinos, always told us “Math is not a spectator sport” and that is still my motto today. You must participate if you hope to gain and I hope that we will gain a lot in the coming year. I know you like to have fun and math can be fun, but it is all in how you look at it. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and hope that you will have a new outlook on math when you leave my classroom. Grading Scale A = 92-100% B = 83-91% C = 74-82% D = 65-73% F = 64% and below ICU Pipestone Area Schools uses the ICU work completion program. All students are here to learn and the expectation of ICU is that all students will complete all work that is expected of them. Work assigned is expected by the due date and if not done on time, students will be put in the ICU list. Students will be given extra time before, during, and after school to complete this work and will continue to stay on this list until the work is completed and satisfactory for the teacher. A second expectation of ICU is not only work completion but an understanding of the assignment. Homework or “practice sets” will be graded accordingly in math class this year. 95% - 100% 85% - 94% 75% - 84% 74% and below 10 points 9 points 8 points REDO A score of 74% or less will constitute a redo. Students can try the assignment on their own or come in for extra help throughout the school day. Redos are due the following class. Once a satisfactory score is achieved, the students score will be changed to reflect the improvement. Tests and quiz scores will be based on 100% scale and students are allowed to redo a test or quiz at the discretion of the instructor. Tests and quizzes must be redone either in my classroom or another appropriately supervised room. Tests and quizzes cannot be redone at home. I have read and understand the expectations for 8th grade math. I will do my best to complete all work and participate in class on a daily basis. I will come in for help when I don’t understand and I will strive to help others in class when they are not understanding as well. _______________________________________________ Student Signature Date _______________________ _______________________________________________ Parent Signature Date _______________________
