VAS 1 VOLUNTARY ACTION SHEFFIELD SENIOR ACCOUNTANT COMMUNITY ACCOUNTANCY SERVICE (CAS) JOB DESCRIPTION Job Purpose Lead the development and delivery of high quality accountancy services to support and strengthen financial management and practice in voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises. Lead a small team and line manage CAS staff, volunteers and freelance workers Lead on business planning and development for CAS’s services to ensure sustainability. . Accountability Accountable for Accounts Apprentice, freelance workers and other staff as appropriate Accountable to the Deputy Chief Executive. Principal duties 1. Lead and manage the delivery of VAS’s Community Accountancy Services including planning, service delivery and development, performance management, financial management. 2. Lead a small team and line manage staff (including appraisal and regular supervision), and coordinate/support volunteers and freelance workers as appropriate. 3. Coordinate and quality assure Independent Examinations and group support including allocating, scheduling and checking work of other personnel in the team. 4. Lead on business planning and development for CAS’s services and support the team to deliver on income targets. 5. Carry out accountancy work with organisations in line with Charity Commission guidelines, including independent examinations of accounts. 6. Provide advice, information and support to voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises on accounting and financial management. 7. Develop and deliver financial management training, including training on computerised accounting packages. 8. Lead on CAS’s finances, including invoicing and work with VAS’s Finance Manager on managing budgets and income targets. 9. Ensure that CAS delivers a quality service and has effective monitoring and processes and delivers good customer service. 10. Market the service to the sector and to organisations. 11. Participate in regional and national community accountancy events and networking with partner organisations. 12. Work as part of the VAS staff team in a professional manner in accordance with policies, procedures and equal opportunities practices Feb 2015 VAS 2 13. Undertake appropriate training and development to maintain up-to-date knowledge and further develop expertise and skills 14. Other duties as required within the general scope of the post, subject to consultation. Summary of Terms and Conditions Hours: Full time (35 hours, with office hours 9.00 – 5.00) but there is flexibility and part-time applicants will be considered as will job-share applicants. There may be some requirement to work outside of usual office hours and time off in lieu will be granted. Salary: Circa £28,000 pa (pro rata if part-time) Leave: 25 days annual leave in addition to 11 statutory and additional holidays, pro rata for part-time staff. VAS pension scheme with 6% employer contribution (and compulsory employee contribution in 2015) subject to successful completion of 3 month probationary period.
