SIPLACE Material Manager
More productivity and lower costs through intelligent
material logistics in electronics manufacturing
ASM Assembly Systems has the answer to the growing material supply
requirements faced by high-mix SMT lines: SIPLACE Material Manager. The
modular software solution makes inventory and material flows transparent in
SMT production. It also networks and supports all material-related processes.
With the SIPLACE Material Manager, the user can monitor and control material
flows in real time, ensure that materials are available for all placement jobs, and
perfectly synchronize all material replenishment operations for the high-mix
production of even the smallest lot sizes. The software modules make paperless
production control, path-optimized pick lists, control of automated storage
systems from various manufacturers, optimized setup processes, control of MSD
exposure times, and many other functions possible. On the production side, the
SIPLACE Material Manager connects with the SIPLACE software suite and
control systems for all leading automatic storage systems. On the corporate IT
side, it connects with the user's ERP system.

The modular software integrates all material-related process steps from receiving to
withdrawals in the component warehouse to processes in the setup preparation area
and on the line itself. Each material movement is tracked by scanning the unique ID

barcode which each package receives as soon as it arrives. When an operator scans a
newly spliced-on reel on the line, for instance, this information is instantly available,
and the components can be located by anyone at any time.
Accurate stock tracking makes physical inventories unnecessary
Detailed stock management eliminates the need for physical inventories or reduces it
to occasional sample checks. The SIPLACE Material Manager networks and supports
all material-related processes in electronics production. Examples include the
management of automated storage systems, path-optimized electronic pick lists, and
the automatic control of MSD exposure times. The SIPLACE Material Manager is also
aware of the component consumption on each machine, the start and end quantities or
component reels, the placement program, order quantities, inventory quantities, and
material supply times and paths. As a result, SIPLACE machines can request new
material supplies automatically. And since workers see these requests on monitors or
tablets in the warehouse early enough, line stops caused by missing components
become a thing of the past.
With the SIPLACE Material Manager, electronics manufacturers can produce more
flexibly and efficiently and respond much more effectively to unforeseen problems and
order changes while operating with significantly reduced supply inventories. Another
innovation being introduced at the 2015 Hybrid Packaging show is the SIPLACE
Material Tower, a compact and fully automated storage system that is integrated into
the SIPLACE Material Manager and optimized to ensure flexible material supplies
adjacent to the line.
