Ziegler Room #30 Entering the Classroom What art your expectations for students ( and yourself ) as they enter your classroom? - - - - -Each student will come prepared with paper, book, pencil, and assignment. We will correct the assignment first , then go over the student problems. I’ll take roll while the students are handing in their assignments. Tardiness What is your procedure for dealing with students who are tardy to class? - - - - Since each student is required to grade their own assignments, the student will upon arriving late have an ungraded assignment. Before handing the assignment in the student must grade their assignment either at noon, before school, or after school. Each student that is late is also marked tardy. Materials What is your procedure for dealing with students who do not arrive at your class with the necessary materials ( books, paper pencil, ect. ) - - - - Essentially the student who does not arrive to class with the necessary materials is absent. If he or she does not scrounge up what is needed, then he or she won’ t be able to do the work. I let the students share a book if it is acceptable to another student but if it gets to be a problem, I try to remedy it through talking with the student. Assignments What procedure do you have in place to communicate to student ( in writing ) regarding assignments made in class? - - - - All assignments are written on the board or on the overhead projector and also in my lesson plan book. A copy of my weeks assignments is also posted on the bulletin board. After an Absence What is your procedure for making sure that students can find assignments made during their absence and can get the necessary handouts, ect. - - - -A Student that has been absent can come in to my room either before school, at lunch or after school to pick up the missing work. He or she may send a absence sheet from the office. The information is posted on my bulletin board and the student may ask for the missing work. Late / Missing assignments What is your procedure for dealing with late or missing assignments? - - - -A missing assignment is a zero. I talk with the student and find out if they are interested in doing the assignment. If the missing assignment is a test , then the student will have to take a retake test to replace the zero. Labs ? Demonstrations and Projects What are your procedures for student behavior during labs or demonstrations? - - - - Part of the Lab/Demonstration and Project grade is on individual participation. A second part of the grade is on the paper write up that follows the project and the notes are also graded. Ending Class What are your procedures for ending class in an efficient manner, which maximizes instructional time? - - - - Each student is to work until the end of the period. I do not have free time or free days in class. Unless told differently, the student is released when the bell rings.
