It is our pleasure to present these Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Workshop on Motion and Video Computation. The proceedings consist of 31 papers, 18 oral presentations and 13 poster presentations. Professor Mubarak Shah, Professor Allen Hanson, and Dr. Zhengyou Zhang exercised great care in the review of submitted manuscripts with the help of a cadre of well qualified reviewers. The program also includes two invited presentations by Professors Takeo Kanade and Thomas Huang. This workshop follows the two earlier workshops in Austin (Motion of Non-Rigid and Articulated Objects in 1994 and Human Motion (HUMO) in 2000). There have been several other workshops on Human Motion including those in Puerto Rico (Non-rigid and Articulated Motion 1997), Orlando, Florida (Motion and Video Computation 2002), and Brackenridge, Colorado (Motion and Video Computation 2005) as well as a number of other workshops on human motion including those on surveillance, in conjunction with other major conferences, and articulated motion and deformable objects in Spain. These and earlier workshops have contributed to the evolution of motion research. The study of motion, and in particular human motion, is a fascinating subject and it is beginning to pay dividends in the form of products and applications. We hope that the workshop papers capture the ongoing research and indicate the future direction of the research. We wish to express our appreciation to the authors who submitted papers to the workshop, program co-chairman Mubarak Shah, Allen Hanson, Zhengyou Zhang, and the program committee who reviewed the papers in a very short time. Local arrangements and administrative assistance was provided by Ms. Selina Keilani. Finally, we wish to thank the participants for their interest and support. J.K. Aggarwal N. Ahuja T.
