Job description: Senior Business Development Advisor Alliance Mission: The mission of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance is to work with communities through local, national and global action on HIV, health and human rights. Job Reports to: Manager: Business Development Main function: To work closely with the Business Development Manager to develop and lead long term strategies for key Alliance institutional donors to secure income according to the Alliance strategy, targets and financial forecasts. The primary tasks involve: leadership of key strategic relationships with institutional donors including Nordic and other European donors, ensuring coordinated approaches to key donors across the Alliance, prospecting and intelligence gathering on institutional donors and funding opportunities; overseeing and executing timely and high quality responses to opportunities which may include writing, leading or coordinating proposal development or case for support development; acting as a focal point for key donors and project partners, within the organisation and externally; excellent donor and external stakeholder relations. This position plays a vital role contributing to knowledge gathering and sharing across the Alliance. Location: Brighton Office Travel: Occasional international travel Responsibilities: 1. Gather and consolidate intelligence on institutional funding opportunities and support the Business Development and New Markets team strategy, planning and external relations activities Lead the relationships with a number of the Alliance’s key institutional donors. Work with Business Development Manager, Policy team staff and other Alliance staff to ensure intelligence for donors currently funding the Alliance and those we are scoping is up-to-date. Provide information on donors and their priorities and research and advise on new funding opportunities. Develop targeted communications (e.g. letters, briefs) to send directly to donor staff and to prepare Alliance senior management attending meetings where donors will be present. Research new funding opportunities and donor priorities, consolidate information on donors and advise on new funding opportunities. Keep up to date information on all donors, developing and maintaining the business development information system and resources (e.g. knowledge sites, our funding pipeline, and contracts and financial management systems). In collaboration with the Business Development Manager, define clear and measurable activities to identify, cultivate and solicit donors to be integrated in the annual departmental plan. 2. Coordinate cross-organization teams to successfully respond to proposals for strategic ‘unrestricted’ and project ‘restricted’ funding as assigned Support the identification of new funding opportunities. Provide oversight and quality assurance of proposals for assigned donors. Contribute to the assessment, research and design of funding proposals. Liaise with donor staff, partners and respective teams to consolidate inputs for proposals, including managing to deadline select portions for the proposal. Lead cross-organization teams to develop proposals. Provide practical support to teams in proposal development, coordinating the internal review process and providing substantive input on proposals. Edit and format proposals to a final form. Work with the Alliance Technical Cooperation Unit in order support approaches to the Global Fund. 3. Serve as the Business Development team focal point for assigned key institutional donors 4. Ensure a coordinated approach to key institutional donors within the Business Development team and across the Alliance more broadly. Take leadership in developing donor strategies for assigned key Alliance institutional donors. Support the Business Development Manager in ensuring the team is well coordinated and working effectively towards the strategy. Track new policies, political changes, and funding trends for each assigned donor. Be the focus for communication with identified staff for the assigned donor. Provide information about and advise staff on assigned donors in cross team environment. Provide support to Business Development Manager in contract negotiation, handover of awards for restricted funding. Manage contracts with strategic ‘unrestricted’ donors, including tracking income received. Provide support and advice to Alliance staff in managing restricted funded contracts, as appropriate, with a particular focus on donor reporting. Obtain regular updates from Alliance BDNM team focal points for all other key Alliance donors to keep up-to-date on all Alliance donors. Provide support to the Non-Institutional Funding Team With the Business Development Manager, develop a coherent approach to financial sustainability which incorporates various income streams for a number of targeted Linking Organizations. Provide research for non institutional funding opportunities and activities. Coordinate and contribute to effective reporting to donors. Respond to information needs for non-institutional donor such as project or beneficiary information, annual data, capacity statements etc. Liaise with other Alliance secretariat teams (e.g. Communications and Programme Impact teams) to ensure Alliance communication and information systems reflect donor priorities. Research, prioritise and communicate in timely manner to ad-hoc requests of support for fundraising initiatives implemented by in-country Alliance organisations and networks. 5. Ensure smooth co-ordination and good donor relations on a number of agreed projects, to be determined Write to a final draft select donor reports. Support the annual Alliance donor consultation meeting, including contributing to the conceptualization of the meeting. Participate in assigned cross-team committees. Participate in annual cross-team planning exercise. Represent the Alliance to donors and other partners for specific projects, as appropriate. 6. Miscellaneous Maintain good relations with Alliance partner organisations and external agencies. Represent the Alliance in appropriate fora. Deputise for the Business Development Manager as appropriate. Ensure the efficient use and further development of information systems to support the work of the BDNM team. Keep up to date on HIV/AIDS policy developments. Some travel may be required. Undertake other duties as required. Sound understanding and solid track record of the international programming in a relevant field (HIV/AIDS, public health, or human rights) in developing countries. Extensive knowledge of individuals, donors and networks making significant contributions in the global response to HIV.
