Fifth Sunday of Easter May 22, 2011 There is a real sense of satisfaction when a project is completed. The last piece is set in place, the parts are connected, the exam is finished and we feel a rush of freedom and pride. As our work nears completion, we anticipate our goal and are motivated to get it done. It does not make the job any easier, but helps us persevere until the end. Jesus encourages the Apostles to press on, setting before them the goal of His Father's House. Assuring them that He will prepare a place for them, He needs to explain what He thought was obvious to them, that He Himself is the way to the Father; in seeing Him they see the Father. It will be this knowledge and conviction that will enable the Apostles to proclaim the Gospel even as they face adversity and uncertainty. Our faith is more than just the promise of 'pie in the sky.' Our practice and beliefs must make a difference in our life here and now. But we keep before us the goal of being one with the Lord in His Father's House. Like a ship guided by a star, it helps us set our course in life as we live and proclaim the Good News of Jesus.
