CLASS & LAB ASSIGNMENTS EXPLAINED:

OVERVIEW:
Students will be introduced to the "Claroline" System… which will be used as a primary
framework or backbone to our class assignments, activities, and "hands-on" project work.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to login to the "Claroline" system using
their assigned login, and will be able to navigate and participate in the downloading and
uploading of required course assignments, and activities.
TECHNOLOGY USED:
Each student will use a computer system with internet access. "Claroline" is internet based,
therefore can be accessed from any Mac or PC compatible computer.
Teacher will present and demonstrate the process using an E-beam interactive white board
system.
PROCEDURE:
Teacher will explain that the "Claroline" system login is accessed from the Technology
Education Calendar website: http://staff.harrisonburg.k12.va.us/~hherlan/TSACalendar.html
Students will login using their assigned login. (Ex. 1.1SKMSTable1 with password "EdTech")
Teacher will then review the "Claroline" system, to include: Course description, Agenda,
Announcements, Documents and Links, Exercises, Learning Path, Assignments, Forums,
Groups, Users, Chat, & Wiki.
Students will then create a folder on their desktops, "10-8-1.1-1-CompanyName-YournameTechnology Education/Assignment Name" and will download their assignments into that folder.
Once completed... these assignments are to be uploaded back into "Claroline" using the assigned
filename. NOTE: Be sure to enter the grade level and section that you are enrolled in.
There will be many assessments taken throughout the "Claroline" experience to include online
quizzes, tests, projects, simulations, and other related assignments.
For this activity, the assessment will be to verify that students can login by having them register
themselves and their file ID into the chat window, then verifying that the students have created a
file folder properly on their desktop, then ensuring that the students have downloaded one file
into that folder… specifically, their self-evaluation spreadsheet.

ALL OF YOUR TECH ED WORK IS TO BE SAVED TO THE APPLICABLE
DESKTOP FOLDERS, as well as to the CLAROLINE SYSTEM. The information is to be
kept up-to-date and accurate. For back-up purposes, save your work often.
1) Finish your Worklog and ALL worksheets. This includes clearly writing your name and other
information on each page, successfully completing required reading and initialling, and so on.
2) Once completed, login to http://www.mygradebook.com/ and complete your Quizlabs... (You
may use your notes, and you are also encouraged to take notes as you complete quiz questions.)

Once you have completed your assigned Quizlabs, you will begin working with Simulations... as
you work through the many simulations available, make note and "screen capture" at least (3)
frames of (MAC: Command-Shift-4) what you liked to do to have included in your "Main File"
PowerPoint Presentation. Use Paint Shop Pro to capture images on the PC’s.

For 6th Graders… Once you have completed your Simulations, and Main File Presentation, you
will begin working on your company project work... a custom designed key chain.
For 7th & 8th Graders… Textbook Chapter Work:
(Complete chapters that are associated with your Module and Project work.)…

3) When you have finished with your required Quizlabs, you will select your work module where
you will begin working on your company's Main File (PowerPoint), and then your Company
Contract (Word), your Company Order Form (Word), and your Company Jeopardy Review
(PowerPoint).
Along with those assignments will be others, such as related simulations, StocksQuest, and your
company project work. (Refer to the Lab Project List)

other online and "hands-on" activity work.

Are you ready for the next step of "HANDS-ON" learning? Ask yourself if you have done the
following:
1.
Made sure that all required work is started, or well under way for yourself as an
individual, and for your company?
2.
Have you completed your MAIN FILE, CONTRACT, ORDER FORM, and
JEOPARDY REVIEW?
3.
Have you made sure that your WORKLOG & NOTEBOOK (including your monthly
checks) are current and up-to-date?
4.
Have you ensured that your SELF-EVALUATION SPREADSHEET is up-to-date, and
is complete for the work you have done to date?
5.
Have ALL required files been properly submitted and saved to the "Caroline" system?
6.
Have you determined a project, then visited the appropriate "Learning Path(s)"? If the
path(s) do not exist, you will assist with creating them.
7.
Have you asked for, and received permission to use "simulations" relating to your chosen
work area and module? When given, permission to use "simulations", this permission is
specific to those areas you are working in and with... you DO NOT have permission to
work with any other project, file, program, or simulation that does not DIRECTLY
involve your chosen project in THIS class.
8.
Do you have valid, functional, and approved project plans? This includes sketches and
plans to scale, as well as "full-blown" drawings. If you wish to take an "easy way out",
or are found to be taking "short-cuts", then you will be asked to restart the planning
process, or change to another assignment.
9.
Have you visited the work modular area, and made sure that you understand the
"inventory" involved. Remember, you are to leave the areas cleaner than you found
them. If left worse, you will lose your priviledges immediately.

REMEMBER... Prior Proper Planning Prevents Poor Production Performance... If at any time
you or a member of your company "breaks the rules", or goes against your signed "Contract",
then your company will be "shut-down". During a shut-down, you will be expected to return to
your assigned table, and will be expected to review all previously shared rules, expectations, and
guidelines. Often this can be a class period, however, if not taken seriously, the period could be
a few days, week, or longer. There may be many reasons for a "shut-down"... Safety (OSHA

Inspection), Fire (Fire Marshall), Health (Health Inspector), and in our classes, attitude, and
behavior, responsibility during clean-up, use of tools and materials, not paying close attention
during discussions, ignoring teacher requests, and so on.
If your company is unable to correct itself after a "temporary shut-down", then your company
will be "shut-down" permanently. This occurs when issues are widespread, and the
circumstances are unable to be addressed with a single employee being "fired", or perhaps
"quitting" to adequately address the issues.
If your companies doors are closed, then you are experiencing "real life" as was the case with
"Circuit City" and its many employees... At this point, all employees will be separated and will
be considered "unemployed". Those involved will be seated away from the others, and will be
expected to learn through "textbook" chapter work until they can be "hired" by another company.
Depending on the isues at hand, we will determine the number of chapters to be completed prior
to being able to be rehired. Often, those who are "unemployed" can be "laid-off" for months,
and in some cases a year or longer. When a company closes, all work is lost to the resulting
"court proceedings", and documents and work will be restarted in the instance that a new
company is formed.
OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration), Fire, Building, or Health Inspection
Checklist:
1.
Company Notebooks open and in correct order.
2.
Individual Notebooks open and in correct order.
3.
Policy Manual has been read, and signatures are included of all team members.
4.
Employees seated properly, respectful and knowledgable of class and company issues
and expectations.
5.
Worklogs have been completed and are up-to-date.
6.
Due worksheets have been completed, with a name on each page/side. All other papers
have at least a name clearly visible.
7.
Table work area neat, materials stored properly.
8.
Modular work areas are neat, materials are stored properly.
9.
Each Individual has a Tech Ed file folder saved to their Desktop, which includes all files
properly named and up-to-date.
10.
All files have been properly uploaded into the "Claroline" system.
Any company that does not have the above completed, will be "shut-down" for whatever
agreed upon time period will be required to get the work caught up and completed as
expected.
