HOUSEHOLD SPECIAL WASTE COLLECTION Overview The Gloucester County Solid Waste Complex (landfill) has a Household Special Waste Collection schedule. Paints and stains; oil based only – no latex Motor oil and anti-freeze; Acid and/or ni-acid batteries; Fluorescent tubes and ballasts; Solvents, pesticides, herbicides, and cleaners; Kerosene, gasoline; Turpentine, varnish, auto & floor care products; Fertilizers, rat poison, and weed killers; Lighter fluid and propane tanks; Photographic and pool chemicals. Items NOT ACCEPTED are: PCBs, kepones, 2,4,5-TP, silvex, dioxin, infectious wastes, radioactive material, explosives, and 30, 55, & 85 gallon containers without prior approval. Proper ID may be required for proof of residency. Any materials in plastic bags will not be accepted. Residents will be informed of any violations. Fines may be issued to any resident in violation of the recycling requirements. Appliances and/or any metal items (scrap metal); 2. Motor and Transmission oil; 3. Oil filters; 4. Electronics; 5. Anti-Freeze; and 6. Empty Propane Tanks. Items that are NOT ACCEPTED would be: Wood/lumber painted/unpainted or treated/non-treated; Any hazardous waste labeled so; Tires. DATES AND HOURS OF OPERATION **SATURDAYS** 9AM – 3 PM (All Year Round) Monday & Wednesday Nights 5PM – 7PM From the First Week in April to the Last Week in October VEGETATIVE RECYCLING The Vegetative Recycling Program includes: 1. grass, 2. leaves, 3. and trimmings, Other FREE Acceptable Materials include branches, brush, and shrubs however, 1. They must be tied into bundles; and 2. Cut no more than 4ft in length. ELECTRONICS RECYCLING The Electronic Waste Management Act has gone into effect. As a result, it is mandatory that electronics are recycled. Electronics will now be picked up curbside the second Wednesday of every month. You must call the trash hotline (478-9514) to be put on the list. Requests for pickup must be received no later than 10:00 AM the day before the scheduled pickup. Residents may also take electronics recycling to their local Best Buy store or to the Recycle Center on Colson Lane. Computers, televisions or any other type of electronics are also accepted at the landfill free of charge. CURB SIDE RECYCLING All trash and recyclable materials will be collected on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday depending on where you live. Place trash (each household was provided with a trash cart and a recycling cart) and recyclables curbside after 6:00 p.m. on evenings prior to your collection day. The recycling is single stream therefore residents may commingle those items. The trash and recycle carts must be at least 4 feet apart and away from obstacles. Items that are collected curbside are as follows: 1. Wood/lumber (including painted and/or treated materials); 2. Appliances and metal items; 3. Rug/Carpet (4ft in length, no more than 50 lbs); 4. Household furniture; 5. Paper, newspaper, magazines and books; cardboard, plastic, and glass. Scrap metal items and electronics are collected on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
