Upcoming Fundraiser Needing Support and Volunteers Bottle Drive Fundraiser for the GPN Band & Orchestra Trip to Toronto What is it? Flyers will be distributed to homes all around the GPNHS area to ask for donations of returnables for us to collect later to cash in at 2 local Kroger stores. Marter Rd. in St. Clair Shrs. & Mack in GPW. First week, we distribute the flyers. Two weeks later, we pick up the returnables from the same house each of us distributed flyers to the week before. Why do it? You raise funds for credit toward the Toronto trip this coming April. Each person who participates in all three phases of the bottle drive by doing what is needed and signing in will be equally given a split of the money earned to their own individual accounts to go toward their costs to go of the Toronto trip. What are the phases? Phase one: Meet in front of PAC at GPNHS Sunday, October 27th at 4:30pm to receive flyers to distribute to designated streets and sign in as a volunteer. Then, distribute those flyers that day or by Monday at the latest. I need two adult volunteers to be able to do the 4:30pm time, if not, we will have to do 6:30pm as the start time. W will have one master set of maps that will be used for assigning streets and one set of sign in sheets. If for some reason you cannot distribute at that time but would like to do it later say the next day or two, it is OK but not any longer than that. If you need more flyers let me know later. Need a couple students to help here as well maybe. Phase two: Sunday, November 10th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm we will be picking up returnables/bottles from the same houses that you were designated to drop flyers of to, two weeks earlier. The returnables will be dropped off in the parking lots at designated spots of the two Krogers named above. You will be assigned a Kroger to drop off the bottles to on the day the streets are assigned. There, volunteers will need to sign in again as active in phase two of the bottle drive next to your previous sign in so we know you were active in phase two. The bottles will stay at the designated spots in the outer parking lot until we can begin feeding the bottle machines around 7:00pm. While in parking lot, we will be sorting the bottles into the various types of returnables into buggies getting them ready to go. I need two adult volunteers minimum at each Kroger to organize this and be there to sign in people and keep track of the slips from the bottle machines for me. These adult volunteers will hold the receipts only and then give them to me. I then, at the end, will cash them all in with the manager of each Kroger. Then, either before, or at the next Booster meeting, I will give a report on the results of the bottle drive and turn over the money to the Booster Treasurer and the group. We will need a few students to help here for sure along with collecting bottles on their own. Phase three: Sunday, November 10th from 6:45pm to 9:00pm (maybe start at 7:00pm) we will be shuttling returnables from the parking lot to the bottle machines at the Krogers that have donated their time and machines for us to cash in our bottles. Every volunteer must sign in at the Krogers (either one) that they are participating in phase three with the volunteering adult at that location. This is the hardest part of the bottle drive. I will try to assign times if I can for each to work a specific shift at each Kroger, but if I don’t you must spend some time during this time we do this helping with the sorting and feeding of the machine, and the overall clean up and organizing we do there. All students are expected to help as needed in this phase. Remember that we are tasked with keeping the bottle return area clean and organized the best we can and the WE MUST GIVE KROGER CUSTOMERS THE RIGHT OF WAY to the machines and be allowed to use the machines when they come in to the store. They have the first priority for the machines. Also, make sure that we represent GPNHS and our Band and Orchestra Program properly with our actions, tone, and demeanor. Lastly, if anyone has a quick and easy canopy, it would be appreciated if we could borrow it for the phase II and III at the Krogers’ parking lots just in case of rain. Thanks! Notes Last year, the bottle drive did pretty good and raised a lot for their trip. We should make a lot of money again to help pay for the trip to compete at Toronto!
