This GENET 424 Group Reading Project will be offered in the Winter term (Jan-Apr)
2012. We would like to teach ~12 students who are willing to work together in a group to
share their knowledge. This will include oral presentations, written work, and group
discussions. Students will work both individually and in small groups.

Course: Biology 495: Ethical Issues in Genetics
When: Winter Term - Jan-April 2013 Wednesday, 2:00-5:30 PM
Course objectives: This course will cover a series of current topics in ethical
issues in genetics. Students will learn to evaluate, discuss, and, present the
facts in these topics by participating in classroom presentations and
discussions.

Introduction to Ethics – Integrity in Research - Discussion of vignettes
Presentation of "Clippings from the News" – See below for directions.
Genetically Modified Organisms – Student presentation of cases (5%)
Genetically Modified Organisms – Debate (See below – 15%)
Gene Patenting – Guest telephone interview with William Rusconi, Senior Vice
President of Marketing, Myriad Genetics – students prepare questions.
