INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR - FRESHWATER
Do you want to work to engage young professionals around the globe in generating knowledge and information about
freshwater issues?
The International Young Professionals Foundation (IYPF) is a not-for-profit public company based in Brisbane, Australia,
working in the fields of human rights, poverty eradication, environment and social capital, within the broad context of
sustainability. It utilises and promotes the resources, skills and knowledge that Young Professionals can bring to this
arena in order to create a better world for current and future generations, primarily through engaging young professionals
to generate and implement international projects and events. The Foundation has already made waves in international
circuits, through attendance at events such as the World Summit for Sustainable Development Prep Comms II and IV and
the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting, and has support from a range of international leaders and heads of
state.
The International Young Professionals Foundation is looking for a young professional who is self-motivated and
passionate about encouraging young professionals to contribute to sustainable development through the freshwater
sector.
The Foundation is developing a partnership with the International Water Association and Taking It Global to develop an
online resource and network for young water professionals as part of the International Year of Freshwater 2003. The
Foundation is also keen to have a strong voice at the Third World Water Forum in Kyoto, March 2003 and hopes to run a
side-event that showcases the work and views of young professionals in the water sector.
The successful candidate will be the Foundation's first international campaign coordinator in the freshwater sector. This
role is fairly demanding and the successful candidate will have good written expression, experience or interest in social
change and/or environmental movements and human and sustainable development and be passionate about making a
difference in the world. They will gain skills and contacts within the development arenas, and will be working with some of
the most dedicated individuals in these fields.
Assessment of your application will include consideration of the following: experience and results working on similar
activities, level of interest and involvement in issues relevant to the position, and ability to effectively manage a work
program as a volunteer.

Knowledge and Research Team
Young Professionals have a unique ability to change the world. Our campaign coordinators will lead and develop
opportunities for young professionals to use their professional knowledge, enthusiasm for life and ability to innovate to
develop ideas that will change the world. Campaign coordinators will be the central focus for IYPF’s involvement in each
campaign area. They will facilitate the involvement of a broad range of young professionals in idea generation and
manage the development of ideas that can be put into action to change the world.
Within the first six months, the Freshwater Campaign Coordinator will:
 Draft an initial discussion paper on freshwater issues from a young professional's perspective (to initiate discussion)
 Facilitate an online discussion forum and other consultation mechanisms to draw together the views and actions of
young professionals on freshwater issues
 Coordinate the Foundation's involvement at the Third World Water Forum in Kyoto (March 2003) in conjunction with
the IYPF’s Representation Team and the International Year of Freshwater Youth Advisory Board
 Initiate discussion with the International Water Association and develop a partnership with IYPF in conjunction with
the IYPF’s Partnerships Area
 Coordinate the development of an online resource for young water professionals
 Recruit a small team of volunteers to assist with the required tasks.
Overall Objectives of Campaign Coordinators
 Facilitate the involvement of young professionals in the development of Knowledge and Research on global
environmental and social sustainability issues
 Manage, promote and facilitate online forums
 Ensure IYPF online forum discussions involve people from a range of cultures and professional backgrounds
 Initiate, facilitate and develop Knowledge and Research partnerships and alliances
 Production of research and policy papers that contribute to a better world for current and future generations through:
o IYPF Events
o Partner and related organisations
o Building the IYPF knowledge bank
o Representing and informing IYPF knowledge and research papers through international forums
o Lobbying government, communities and business
Roles and Tasks:
 Day-to-day management of an online forum
 Management of the process of producing IYPF Research papers
 Develop, in consultation with IYPF members and partners, discussion questions by identifying topics pertinent to the
theme or action area
 Identify potential members of a Campaign Advisory Panel
 Work with the research team to identify further requirements for research and communicate this need and initial
thoughts on the strategy to the research team
 Work with the broader Knowledge and Research team and the IYPF Partnerships group to identify organisations and
people that link with IYPF Knowledge and Research team
 Work with the Communications group to identify opportunities to represent IYPF ideas and inform IYPF ideas at
international and local forums
 Assist in preparing people to attend international and local forums
Resources and requirements:
 Estimated time involved: Five hours each week (normal tasks). When on-line forums are happening, an additional
hour each day.
 Location: world-wide
 Campaign Coordinators must be an ordinary member of the Foundation
 Daily Internet and telephone access essential
 Experience in the Campaign topic area is highly desirable
Remuneration: None. The position is voluntary. IYPF will consider reasonable requests for covering expenses incurred to
complete tasks.
