Wynham Farms’ Workshops 2009 The following workshops may be scheduled for 2-8 attendees. They include basic materials for the workshop. Additional supplies will be available and for sale. Fees range from $50-$100 per attendee depending on workshop and number of attendees. Pickin’, Spinnin’, Grinnin’ - Alpaca This 3-4 hour workshop for advanced beginner spinners will demo how to use a triple picker to pick alpaca and spin from a handful of fluffy fiber. Triple pickers can be frightful looking and some say they will ruin your exotic fibers. Used carefully and gently, pickers are a great tool for prepping alpaca. Spinning straight from the handful can create a thick/thin, rustic yarn. The spinner will learn how to create this novelty yarn ‘outside the box’ of the normal, consistent yarns. And of course the class will be fun and as free of stress as possible. Pickin’, Spinnin’, Grinnin’ - Mohair This 3-4 hour workshop for advanced beginner spinners will demo how to use a triple picker to pick mohair locks and spin from a handful of fluffy fiber and locks. Spinning straight from the handful can create a thick/thin, straight/curly artsy yarn. The spinner will learn how to create this novelty yarn ‘outside the box’ of the normal, consistent yarns. And of course the class will be fun and as free of stress as possible. Simply Dyeing – Bobbing for Apples Technique This 3-4 hour workshop will provide some creative time and information for hand-dyeing balls of natural fiber yarn (protein/animal fibers). During this time, you will learn how to use acid dyes and learn by trial what colorways appeal. No color wheels will be allowed. “Outside the box” or “outside the lines” creativity is encouraged.
