Dumfries & Galloway Personality Disorder Support Group offers help, hope and understanding to family, friends and loved ones affected by Personality Disorder. Our Group is open to People with experience of living with the condition, whether diagnosed or not Friends, families and carers of people affected by a Personality Disorder Professionals caring for someone with long term mental health problems awaiting a diagnosis or with a Personality Disorder diagnosis in place. Any other person or group who shares the values of the Personality Disorder Group. Our aims are: To learn more about the Personality Disorder experience, and the factors which help and hinder it, and to share that learning. To improve the rights, services and treatment of our loved ones suffering from Personality Disorder and also for the people who help care for them. To try and improve the way people awaiting a diagnosis and their Carers are treated Raising awareness of Personality Disorder and challenging the stigma and discrimination surrounding PD in general. We are passionate about trying to improve the way in which Carers of someone with Personality Disorder have access to the correct information regarding treatment of their loved ones and that they have access to appropriate training and support to enable them to care for and understand their loved ones in the manner they deserve. We believe that people with direct experience of Personality Disorder and their Carers have an expertise that cannot be found elsewhere. Collective advocacy can harness this expertise and use it to influence the ways in which services are developed and run, to educate professionals and the public, and to also empower and influence the lives of our loved ones suffering from PD. Activities of the group Training opportunities for Carers, friends and family members living with someone with Personality Disorder. social opportunities for people who have or may have a Personality Disorder, Carers, Friends and Family within the Dumfries and Galloway Region through Peer Support. Raising awareness of the need for appropriate and accessible information on Personality Disorder in locations such as GP Surgeries, Libraries etc. Developing leaflets for families to include helpful information on understanding the condition, training opportunities available and signposting to the various groups and organisations within both Dumfries & Galloway and across Scotland. Continuing to work on a local level to influence policy and planning, and strive to ensure that both the PD Client and the Carer’s voice is heard clearly in the development and delivery of services for people with Personality Disorder. Sharing ideas and encourage and support action locally and nationally for the promotion of specialised Personality Disorder Services. Raising awareness amongst professionals regarding the true reality of living with someone with Personality Disorder and how staff attitudes can either help or hinder that relationship.
