IMPORTANT DATES September 5 September 19 November 27-28 December 11 Labor Day – no class No class – special assignment Thanksgiving Recess FINAL EXAM COURSE OBJECTIVES The course objectives are simple: The main objective is to have students get used to the French language (sounds and spelling). It is important that the students learn to say, write and read basic French. The lab will be used to do exercises on the web and to work on their cultural project. ATTENDANCE Regular attendance in class is essential to learning a foreign language. Students are allowed ONLY THREE ABSENCES. Students are expected to come to every class and to be on time. If you have more than 3 absences, your grade will be lowered. Three tardies equal 1 absence. NO CELLULAR PHONES ARE ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM. Failure to turn off cellular phone will count as an absence for that day. NO FOOD, CHEWING GUM, or DRINK is allowed in the classroom except for water. EVALUATION / GRADING Assiduity, class participation, and chapter homework: 30% Homework and Chapter Work Homework assignments will be given at the end of some classes. They are due the following class meeting. Please exchange phone numbers with another student so that you will have someone to call in case you miss an assignment. Credit for homework is for percentage completed during the semester. Chapter work is due no later than the day of the test. LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE NEITHER ACCEPTED NOR GRADED! Cultural Project: 10% 10% of the final grade. Students choose their own project with the professor’s approval. Tests and Quizzes: 30% We cover the preliminary and the first five chapters in French 101. There will be a test at the end of each chapter. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS FOR THE CHAPTER TESTS. IF YOU MISS ONE OF THE TESTS, YOUR NEXT TEST WILL COUNT DOUBLE. Final: (30%) The final exam will be cumulative and be similar in format to the chapter tests. IF YOU MISS THE FINAL, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN F.
