It will provide you with ample opportunity to participate in discussions and dialogue so that you may actively engage in issues of diversity specific to various francophone countries and compare them to issues of diversity in your native country. In this class you will examine the concept and meaning of difference, and the social, political, and economic issues that result from it. Moreover, you will develop sensitivity to different cultural perspectives through your increased ability to engage peoples from other culture in their own language and on their own terms. Devoirs-homework: Homework will be posted on D2L (most of it except for handouts) and should be done and turned in due time. There will be an exam/contrôle after each chapter and short “rédac”. Any suspected use of an online translator will result in an F. When typing your essays, please choose font 12/double space/accents on http://french.about.com/od/writing/ss/typeaccents_7.htm for p.c. & _8.htm for mac. Method of study: (your responsability) 1. Study of grammar: After class you should study the grammar section of Interaction that we have discussed in class. Review the grammar structures and the vocabulary before doing your workbook assignments. On the following day, I will answer questions you may have on any of the material. 2. Study of culture/literature/film: On the days we plan to discuss a cultural text or film, you must come to class prepared for discussion. This means that prior to our class meeting, you should read the text or view the film at least 3 times, and write down your answers to the discussion questions. 3. I strongly suggest that you spend at least a few hours per week viewing francophone websites. The following will provide you with opportunities to view short films, music clips, news and more: http://www.tv5.org/index.php ; http://www.7billionothers.org/fr/node/44; http://www.allocine.fr/ http://www.tv5mondeplusafrique.com/# ; http://www.conte-moi.net/ ; http://www.malijet.com/ 4.
