Program Information
The objectives of the Visiting Scientist Program are designed to provide a solid educational resource;





Expose students to research in the pharmaceutical sciences and encourage them to consider pursuing
graduate study and an advanced degree.
Expose students to career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry.
Provide colleges and their faculty with access to industry scientists with working expertise.
Increase communications and foster information exchange between academia, industry scientists, and
students.
Convey to students and faculty the complexities, challenges, and costs associated with drug discovery,
development, production, quality control, and marketing.
Applications will be judged based on the program description, involvement of both undergraduate and graduate
students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty, a list of potential speakers and a brief statement of limited
funding to support such a program. No chapter will be eligible for funding if the chapter has received a funding
within the AAPS fiscal year (October 1, 2015 – September 30, 2016).
The award will cover only incurred expenses (e.g., coach class airfare, hotel for up to 2 nights, taxi, and light
meals during travel) up to $1,500 for Student Chapters in North America or $2,000 for International Chapters.
Honorariums and food for group functions will not be covered. The speaker is expected to spend one full day at
the university. At a minimum, the speaker will give a 1 hr seminar and meet with students (both graduate and
undergraduate), postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty for a minimum of 3 hrs.
Applications are due by January 15, 2016. Awards will be announced on January 29, 2016. Only AAPS
Student Chapters are eligible for this funding. AAPS can assist in contacting the speaker, but the student chapter
will be responsible for arranging the visit once the funding has been awarded. The seminar and submission of
reimbursement form must be completed by September 1, 2016 or the award is forfeited.
