Oregon State University- Has 30 members, majority of which are PHD students. Bringing
in two speakers through VSP program (Rodney Ho from Washington). Other speakers
via recommendations.
University of British Columbia- Last August new graduate student orientation.
September welcome luncheon and annual elections, as well as professional
development workshop. Industry speaker assisted with resume and cover letter. K-12
outreach event in Vancouver (elementary school). What are the pharmaceutical
sciences and how drugs are developed. Shared lab ware and science activity with
dissolution experiment. 12th annual student bio expo. In march, organized formal visit
to the center for drug research and development. This month, some members
volunteered at the Vancouver regional science fair. Planning professional development
workshop in May.
University of Southern California- Organizing Moving Targets symposium. August 22,
2014 on cancer therapeutics. Inviting speakers.
University of the Pacific- 20 members. Collaborate with chemistry students.
Orientation and welcome back luncheon. Phd and MS students. Work with GSA on
hockey game, dinner, etc. Supported Bay Area Discussion Group. “imposter syndrome”




professional development series. Russ Weiner visit in June. Organize trip to botanical
garden in SF. Supporting nanotechnology conference in SF.
University of Utah- Two major speakers (MIT and Merck- Visiting Scientist Program).
End of the year Christmas dinner with faculty and students. In touch with Sarah
Campbell to expand chapter. Seeking funding for AM and NBC.
University of Washington- Annual pumpkin carving party in October (med chem,
pharmaceutics, pharmacology). Group hike. Software training and data management
techniques (elab notebook). JHU speaker in December. New this year-participated on
“landing your first job in industry” and hosted group meeting. Webinars are very
specialized. Hoping for more student webinars. More outreach to a local school 1-8
high energy kids. Ran two science experiments (how enzymes work and another on
tums and vinegar and ph indicators). PAWS on science. Judges at a local high school
science fair. Soliciting donations for Ronald McDonald house and volunteering. Rented
rowboats on waterfront at end of the year, also a fundraiser for a local school (Hutch
School provides k-12 education for kids undergoing cancer treatment). Will bring in
Aaron Maas at Seattle Genetics (alumnus).
Midwestern University- Brand new chapter. Still getting their feet wet as a chapter. Had
a recruitment fair early in the year. Made hand sanitizer at a health fair. Family day
coming up. Ice cream mixer with two BMS fellows. Abbvie expert next week to discuss
job opportunities.
University of Colorado- Organized a company tour of Array BioPharma and a luncheon
planning a presentation by local professionals and dinner event this year, we would also
like to plan an entrepreneurship/intellectual property workshop
