Specific responsibilities will be negotiated, depending on the expertise and experience of the individual. General responsibilities 1. Set a good example in terms of: relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and members of the community. personal standards of appearance, punctuality and attendance. 2. Promote the implementation of the school’s mission statement. 3. Work in partnership with other staff and under the direction of the Y7 Progress Leader and Assistant Headteacher. 4. Lead and manage specific areas of responsibility (outlined below). Ensure high quality through: clear communication thorough planning rigorous monitoring regular evaluation 5. Use initiative to deal with unforeseen situations, to ensure the school runs smoothly. Specific responsibilities 1. Strive to meet the pastoral needs of all pupils in year 7 2. Strive to improve standards of pupils’ attendance, punctuality and appearance. 3. Strive to improve standards of behaviour 4. Promote good partnerships with parents, by: a. ensuring they are kept informed about their child’s behaviour, welfare and progress. b. ensuring they are consulted in decisions concerning their child. c. Actively promoting their involvement in all appropriate events. 5. Make full use of rewards and sanctions, in line with the school’s policy, to create a positive learning environment. 6. Support the Progress Leader in using data to monitor the progress and development of pupils. 7. Support the Progress Leader in identifying individuals and groups, whose progress falls short of expected levels. 8. Work in partnership with Progress Leader, other staff and agencies to assist with support strategies. 9. Ensure pupil files are kept up to date. 10. Endeavour to meet individual pupils’ emotional, social, behavioural, health or learning needs. Work with other agencies, where appropriate, (using the Common Assessment Form for referral) 11. Ensure a smooth transition from primary school and on into year 8. 12. Provide specialist reports on pupils and attend case conferences, when required. 13. Contribute towards events specific to year, 7, for example: a. Year 6: primary assemblies/ events, visits to Boteler, pupil friendship groups, admission issues, transition events, pupil profiles, tutor grouping b. Year 7: induction Events and teams • • • Pastoral team meetings Multi-agency review meetings Any other meetings deemed necessary as directed by the Pastoral Assistant Headteacher or Headteacher The duties outlined in this job description may be modified by the head teacher to include responsibilities commensurate with the salary and job title.
