JOB DESCRIPTION
Pastoral Manager
Job Title:
Pastoral Manager.
Purpose:
Working as a member of the Pastoral Team to address needs of pupils in overcoming
barriers to learning both inside and outside the school and to provide support to pupils, staff and
parents/carers in the management of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Dimension:
Years 7 to Year 11
Salary:
£23,970 - £25,455 pro rata (actual salary £20,179 - £21,429)
Hours:
36 per week 38 weeks per year (term time)
2 days 8:15am – 4:15pm (40 mins lunch)
2 days 9:00am – 5:00pm (40 mins lunch)
1 day 8:15am – 3:35pm (40 mins lunch)
Main Responsibilities:
1. To take a full role in managing and delivering pastoral support to students.
2. To be the main point of contact for parents/carers being responsible for and dealing with issues
when appropriate and/or referring to other staff for action.
3. To establish constructive relationships with parents/carers in order to strengthen home school
links for the benefit of the student’s welfare and learning.
4. To collect and collate statements relating to incidents, following up directly when appropriate.
5. To respond to Incident Referral Forms in line with the School’s Behaviour For Learning Policy.
6. To respond to and take steps to resolve relationship issues between students.
7. To contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate programmes and strategies
for behaviour management and to monitor, review and evaluate these.
8. To work with identified pupils individually and in small groups on managing behaviour.
9. To manage and supervise pupils excluded from and/or otherwise working to modified
timetables.
10. To implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to
student responses/needs.
11. To arrange for work to be set and collected for exclusion and other student absence.
12. To issue, collect and follow up ‘report sheets’ for identified students in accordance with the
Behaviour For Learning Policy.
13. To collate reports on student progress from staff as required.
14. To undertake assessments of students to determine those of particular need.
15. To assist in the identification of early signs of disengagement and contribute to specific
interventions to encourage re-engagement.
16. To take the role of named ‘key worker’ as part of a school based system of allocating pupils ‘at
risk’ to a named adult.
17. To actively seek information about, and utilize, the range of activities, courses, organizations
and individuals to provide support for students to broaden and enrich their learning.
18. To work with pupils who demonstrate :
 poor behaviour
 failing motivation and/confidence
 difficulty in concentrating and being focused
 poor attendance and/or punctuality
 difficulty in relationship with peers or adults
 serious underachievement in their subjects
19. To assist with the development and implementation of Individual Behaviour Plans/
Pastoral Support Plans.
20. To monitor and evaluate students’ responses and progress against agreed action plans.
21. To provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required to other staff and outside
agencies on students’ achievement, progress and other matters ensuring the availability of
appropriate evidence.
22. To contribute to the maintenance of records and information systems on behaviour, attendance
and other related issues, both computerized and manual, with due regard to data protection and
confidentiality.
23. To ensure relevant staff are kept up to date.
24. To attend and participate in meetings with parents, outside agencies and the Pastoral Team.
25. To establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model.
26. To challenge and motivate students, promote and reinforce self-esteem.
27. To comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to
safeguarding and child protection, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to
an appropriate person.
28. To assist in the evaluation of the school’s pastoral work and the planning for improvement.
29. To provide an initial response to complaints from the public regarding inappropriate behaviour of
girls whilst journeying to and from school.
30. To participate in the detentions rota.
