Pastoral Care Manager
MAIN PURPOSE
Under the direction of the pastoral care manager and head teacher, provide support to teachers and
support staff in addressing the needs of children who need help to overcome barriers to learning both
inside and outside the school, in order to achieve their full potential.
MAIN DUTIES
Support for Pupils
To work with behaviour modification strategies to help remove barriers to learning
Assist in the speedy and effective transfer of pupils through the various phases from preschool settings to secondary including within school.
Develop a 1:1 mentoring relationship with pupils needing particular support to achieve the
goals defined in their individual action plans.
Act as a role model for all pupils setting high expectations.
Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
Encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage in activities.
Promote self-esteem and independence, employing strategies to recognise and reward
achievement within established school procedure.
Supervise the welfare, security and good conduct of children during the morning and mid- day
breaks, enforcing the expected standards of school discipline, providing pastoral support to
pupils..
Support for the Pastoral Care Manager
Working with the teacher and support staff, participate in the comprehensive assessment of
children selected by the Headteacher or his/her nominated representative, to identify those
who need extra help to overcome barriers to learning inside and outside school.
Work within a clear framework for pupil discipline, anticipate and manage pupil behaviour
constructively, promoting self-control and independence, in line with established school
policy.
To work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure that the needs of the gifted and
talented children and those with special educational needs are met.
To work with the PASS system and act on the outcome data.
Support for the Curriculum
To lead and plan small group interventions focussing on areas related to the needs of
vulnerable children.
To develop knowledge and appreciation of the range of activities, courses, opportunities,
agencies and services that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for pupils.

Support for the School
Comply with all school policies and in particular the procedures relating to child protection,
health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Report all concerns to the
Child Protection Lead Officer or the Safeguarding team.
Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities
to learn, develop and feel valued, respecting their social, cultural, linguistic, religious and
ethnic background.
Work as part of a team, appreciating and supporting the role of other people in the team.
Contribute to the school ethos, aims and development/improvement plan.
Contribute to the sharing of relevant information between local agencies and schools.
Communicating by telephone to contact local authorities in connection with the setting up of
meetings for the Pastoral Manager, SENCO and other senior staff.
Provide absence cover for Mid day Supervisors
Attend and participate in network meetings sharing best practice to support others.
Undertake personal development through training and other learning activities including
performance management as required.
Undertake all associated paperwork and admin for the role . Typing up children’s reviews,
CAFs and other reports under the direction of the Pastoral Care Manager and the SENCO
and other senior staff.
Minute taking at pupils Annual Reviews.
Work within the attendance module of SIMS to assist the Pastoral Care Manager and other
senior staff, preparing for and arranging attendance panels.

Relevant experience and knowledge of working with children and young people in an educational
setting.

Ability to relate well to children and adults.
Good communication skills – written and verbal are essential for this role.
Qualification & Training
Level 2 qualification or equivalent in Maths/numeracy and English/literacy.
Willingness to undertake appropriate first aid training.
Good typing skills essential.
Training in Positive handling essential.
