2016-2017 GRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION About the AAPS Fellowship In 2016, AAPS will be awarding a total of five (5) graduate student fellowships in the amount of $10,000 each. The official start date is September 1. All fellowships are eligible for renewal for a second year, contingent upon eligibility and progress in research. It is not an automatic renewal. Applicants must be an AAPS student member at the time of application and must maintain membership throughout the entire term of fellowship. Fellowships are open to all schools/departments, including non-traditional disciplines (e.g. chemistry, biology, engineering, mathematics, statistics), but applicant thesis research must be relevant to pharmaceutical sciences. For 2016 – 2017, AAPS will offer four (4) fellowships to students studying in U.S. institutions. Students may be U.S. residents or international students studying at the U.S. institution. AAPS will offer one (1) fellowship for a graduate program outside of the U.S. For the fellowships to the U.S. institutions, applicants must be in the second year or beyond of their doctoral program. For the fellowship to the international institutions, there is flexibility in this requirement, depending on the structure of the program at the institution. Anticipated graduation date must be included in your application. There are no restrictions on concurrent fellowship and/or research grant awards from other organizations. Funding goes directly to the institution/department and must be used to support the student with a stipend and/or tuition. No indirect costs (administrative overhead) will be allowed for the sponsoring institution. Within two years of receiving funding, awardee must atend an AAPS meeting. At least once during the term of the fellowship, awardee must submit an abstract to the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exhibition or the National Biotechnology Conference to present his/her research in a poster session. Up to $2,000 of award money may be used for travel to the meeting. If the travelship monies is not needed, it can be applied towards the applicants‘ research. If you are awarded an AAPS Foundation Graduate Student Fellowship, you may also apply for an AAPS Graduate Student Award or travelship. Once an award is approved, the sponsoring institution must submit a budget to AAPS detailing how the award will be spent. Acceptance letter needs will state that the intended money will go towards stipened and tuition except for the $2,000 eligible for travel. All awardees must provide a one-page final progess report to AAPS no later than three (3) months after the end date of the Fellowship. The report should also list manuscripts and/or publications that have resulted from the Fellowship support; awardee must acknowledge the AAPS Foundation Fellowship in such publications. This acknowledgement should include “This research was supported in part by a Graduate Student Fellowship Award from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Foundation.“ For new application, the following documents must be submitted: PART A of the Application with description of research by applicant PART B consisting of recomendations by the applicant’s major research advisor and two other professors.
