AAPS E-LEARNING COURSES CALL FOR COURSE PROPOSALS BACKGROUND: The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists strives to meet the continuing education needs of members and others in the field. AAPS recognizes the need to address perceived training gaps in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sciences, in today’s rapidly changing pharma landscape. Reinforced by the popularity of the AAPS Webinar Program, AAPS recognizes the widespread adoption of a new way to receive training, ‘e-Learning’, which provides online course offerings and the convenience of self-paced learning. AAPS has invested in a new technology platform to deliver ‘e-learning’ opportunities to AAPS members and others in the field. A new type of online educational course, Biotec 101, was recently rolled out by AAPS and members of the Biotec and PPDM Sections. This ‘e-learning’ series is an online, on demand, series of lectures around a particular topic related to biotechnology development. DESCRIPTION OF e-COURSES: AAPS e-Courses will be designed to be comprehensive online offerings that provide the convenience of self-paced learning. Facilitated by top researchers in the field, these e-Courses will provide practical perspectives from practicing scientists, and allow participants the opportunity to receive a Certificate of Completion. The material can encompass a broad topic indepth, often with multiple lectures available under a particular subject module in a multi-module eCourse, or address specific training gaps in key areas, with a few lectures in a single module. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: To broaden the course offerings available to pharmaceutical scientists, AAPS would like to receive proposals on other ‘e-learning’ courses from AAPS Sections and Focus Groups in order to begin the development of a robust library of online training courses. Since the ideas for various types of AAPS educational offerings (Workshops, Short Courses, Webinars, etc.) are usually generated from the ground up by AAPS members, this Call for Proposals is a good opportunity to suggest topics for e-Courses that may benefit the membership. The technology adopted by AAPS for Biotec 101 allows for pre-recorded lectures to accompany a slide presentation and a method for supplying a certificate of completion. The user would be able to participate in an on-demand fashion; live, interactive courses are not being considered at this time. AAPS will be accepting submissions three times a year for e-Courses. The proposal submission form, attached here, requires details such as proposed objectives, topics, audiences, speakers, etc. The newly established AAPS Electronic Program Development Committee will review all proposals and make their selections. AAPS’s goal is to increase its e-Course offerings by at least 2-3 e-Courses every year. It is suggested that each course designate one or more individuals that will have oversight regarding the lecture/module content to ensure quality of content and avoid content redundancy. Each lecture will consist of a 40-50 minute presentation followed by a set of questions (5-10 questions) to serve as an evaluation. Successful completion of a lecture, module or course, determined by an 80% success rate on all course questions, will result in the participant receiving a certificate of completion. AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENTISTS e-COURSE SUBMISSION FORM An ‘e-Course’ is an online, on demand, prerecorded series of lectures around a particular topic. Discussion boards, quizzes, certificates of completion and e-commerce features are available for use in the course. Submission Forms will not be accepted for consideration unless all requested information is completed. Submission Forms without a tentative program WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED by the EPDC for approval. 1.
