7TH & 8TH GRADE VARSITY BASEBALL
2011 SEASON
All 7th & 8th grade St. Pius X and CCD students are invited to try out for the 2010 Varsity Baseball Team. This
year's Varsity Baseball tryouts will be conducted in early March.
A formal evaluation process has been developed to evaluate four skill sets: fielding, throwing, hitting, and foot
speed. Independent evaluators along with the coaches will individually evaluate each player using a grading system
for each skill set. At the end of the tryout, the independent evaluators will submit each player's evaluation to be
considered. Final team selections will be posted on the St. Pius X Athletic Association website.
Unlike J.V. Baseball, Varsity Baseball has no minimum play rule. Therefore, it is possible that a player may not
participate in the game. However, every player will have equal opportunity to develop their skill sets and
understanding of the game by participating in practices.
Please carefully read, complete, and sign the Permission and Release Form on the bottom of this notice. Detach
and return the signed Permission and Release Form by February 28, 2011. NO PLAYER will be permitted to
try out unless this form is returned. Once the team has been selected, a registration fee will be collected at the
first practice.

Permission and Release Form
I/We the parents or guardians of _________________________________, grade _______, hereby give my/our
approval to participate in any and all St. Pius X Varsity Baseball activities, including transportation to and from the
activities. I/We understand and acknowledge that not all children trying-out for a position on the team will be
selected.
I/We understand that participation in baseball may result in serious injuries and that protective equipment does not
prevent all injuries to players. Therefore, I/we do hereby waive, release, absolve, indemnify and agree to hold
harmless the St. Pius X Baseball Program, the organizers, participants, coaches, and persons transporting my/our
children to and from activities for any claim arising out of an injury to my/our child whether the result of negligence
or for other cause, except to the extent and in the amount covered by accident or liability insurance.
I/We understand and acknowledge that CYO Varsity Baseball has no minimum play rule and understand
and accept the fact that my/our child may not participate in the game.
I/We agree to return upon request the uniform and other equipment issued to my/our children in as good condition as
when received except for normal wear and tear. I/We agree to conduct ourselves as responsible fans without
abusive language or manner towards players, coaches, fans, and officials and recognize the official’s
authority over the game.
