Fundraising & Development Concentration
Program Description
The Fundraising & Development Concentration in Higher Education Administration is a masters' portfolio
program for graduate students interested in philanthropy, fundraising and development work at state
institutions. The program explores the history and best practices of development and philanthropy work as it
relates to higher education. The program also offers professional development and internship opportunities.
Program Requirements
Prospective and current UT Austin Higher Education M.Ed. students are eligible to apply. For additional
information and advising, please contact Dr. Juan González.
Students typically fulfill the requirements of the track program without extending the time necessary to
complete their graduate degree program.
Complete 4 courses (12 credit hours) from the including:
 Three core courses:
- Fundraising in Higher Education 101 (Fall)
- Economics and Finance of Higher Education (Spring)
- Research Methods: Grant Writing* (Fall, Spring or Summer)
*Grant writing courses are offered by various colleges and departments throughout the year including, but not limited to
Kinesiology, LBJ School of Public Policy and the Department of Anthropology. Students may select the course of their
choice, pending academic advisor approval.

One course from the approved elective list** including, but not limited to:
- Higher Education Productivity
- Public and Financial Management
- State and Local Public Finance
- Foundations of Accounting
- Philanthropy & the Arts
- Theories of Public Finance
- Perspectives on Philanthropy
**Other electives can be substituted pending your academic advisor’s approval.

Internship opportunities*** are also available and may be taken for approved credit:
- Internship required course EDA 397P
***Dr. Marilyn Kameen approves and supervises all masters student internships. Before the registration period for the
next semester, students must complete certain steps to add the internship course. For details on this process, see the
CUSPA Masters Student Handbook.
