Resources (textbooks/page numbers, trade books, magazines, newspapers, etc.) Articles from online sources, World History textbook p. 519 Technology Utilized: (Internet sources, United Streaming, etc.) SparkNotes, Google Earth, PowerPoint Template B Day: Wednesday Strategic Lesson Plan Before Purpose (Why): To connect the ideas of Marxism to what happened with the Bolsheviks, how they influenced Lenin, and how they impacted the future Communist state of Russia. To cultivate background knowledge. Strategy (What): Bellringer activity. Ask students to brainstorm and write down any background information they have on Karl Marx and Communism. Procedure (How): Write instructions on the board and have students write in their notebooks. Ask students to share their thoughts. Go over main ideas. Assessment: Students shared what they wrote down. During Purpose (Why): To give students the opportunity to work in groups, move around the room, and exchange ideas. To allow for critical thinking and summarizing of information. Strategy (What): Group reading and discussion. Ask students to complete graphic organizer during group sharing with class. Present PowerPoint presentation to class and ask groups to share as their topics arise. Procedure (How): Give out pieces of paper to each student with group’s term on it that they will research together. Show diagram of group meet spots and ask students to go to these spots in the classroom. Give out graphic organizers to each student to fill in only his/her group’s section. Give each group an article to read on its subject. Have one student in each group read the article aloud to the rest of the group. Ask that students discuss main points and record them in their graphic organizers. Assessment: Students shared the main points about their subjects. (Turned into teacher) Template B After Purpose (Why): Assess what students understood from the combination of their own research, the PowerPoint presentation, and discussion. I asked identifying questions at the end to jog students’ memories and lock key points in their minds. Strategy (What): Students answer three questions: “What I learned…” “What I found most interesting…” What I still need information about…” I also asked questions to the class that students raised their hands to answer about the key points of the content. Procedure (How): Pass out worksheets with three questions for students to answer and collect at the end of class. I asked questions while students answered the worksheet questions. Assessment: Students wrote answers to questions about their learning. (Turned into teacher)
