Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to a new school year at Waddell Elementary School. You will
have a chance to meet your child’s teacher from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on
Tuesday, August 26th. Please report to the LDMS gym promptly at 10:30 a.m.
for a 10 minute informational session on drop off and pick up procedures. Your
child’s teacher will meet you there and escort you to the classroom. Parents
should take advantage of this opportunity, as this time is allotted for visiting the
room and helping your child transition. We do not encourage lingering in your
child’s classroom on the first day of school due to the fact that the teachers need
to establish their relationships and routines in the classroom as soon as possible.
During your visit on August 26th, the teachers will give you forms and information
about their classes as well as provide an opportunity for you to sign up as a
volunteer and/or homeroom parent. School will begin on Wednesday, August
27th. The tardy bell rings at 8:15 a.m. Breakfast will begin at 7:45 for those
who will be having breakfast at school.
The majority of the elementary classrooms are located in the two modular
buildings directly behind LDMS. The elementary office and the third and fourth
grade classrooms are in the building B which is closest to the community center.
Grade K-2 are located in building C which is directly behind the middle school.
Fifth grade will be housed in the middle school. Resource rooms are allocated in
all three facilities.
Drop off for elementary students may begin at 7:45. Students should be
dropped off at the main entrance of LDMS. Students will wait in the LDMS
cafeteria and then will be taken to class at 8:00. They will be able to purchase
breakfast during this time. If you have a middle school student, you may drop
your elementary student off at the same time you drop off your middle school
student, and supervision will be provided in the cafeteria.
All students will be dismissed from the main entrance of LDMS.
Elementary school parents should not arrive to pick up students before 2:50.
This will allow for all middle school traffic to clear before the elementary traffic
lines up. Teachers will be on duty to direct traffic. Please pay close attention to
their directions.
You will receive all beginning of the year forms, a copy of the school
calendar, a lunch and breakfast menu, dismissal information, our division food
policy, your handbook, and the first newsletter of the school year at meet the
teacher. If you can’t make this meeting, you will receive it the first day of school.
I am looking forward to meeting all of the new families and catching up with
everyone who is returning to Waddell.
Enjoy your summer vacation and I look forward to seeing you soon. If you
have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Principal
Waddell Elementary School
