Human Resources DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Performs a variety of diagnostic x-ray procedures under the clinical direction of a Radiologist. Schedules and registers patients for exams. Obtains insurance authorizations for diagnostic imaging exams. EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS AND TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited school or training program for Radiologic Technologists and eligible to be registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Incumbent must obtain registry status within 12 months from date of hire. Incumbent will be required to demonstrate competence in the performance of duties specific to the age groups of the patients for whom s/he will be assigned. EXPERIENCE: No previous experience required. Given training and on-the-job experience, incumbent should be proficient in the basic aspects of the job within 1 month. Ability to work with minimal supervision. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Supervises: None Reports To: Practice Manager COMMUNICATIONS: Requires frequent communications with patients. Routine communications with departmental staff and physicians. Periodic communications with nursing personnel and family/friends of patients. Purpose includes giving and receiving information, explaining services, rules or procedures, obtaining consents, or providing instructions regarding policies or standards. Requires well-developed communication skills, tact and discretion in order to obtain cooperation and understanding, discuss and resolve routine technical problems and maintain goodwill WORKING HOURS AND OVERTIME STATUS: Required to work the established hours of the clinic. Will assist with all patients and complete all required documentation and activities before leaving premises. Will assist in Public Relations/health fair activities as required. Classified as non-exempt for purposes of overtime. DRESS POLICY: Department approved apparel in compliance with Hospital Image Policy. Sturdy closed-toe shoes with non-slip sole. Dosimetry badge. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Works in light and temperature controlled environment. Occasionally exposed to somewhat unpleasant odors and fumes. Required to work around radiation producing equipment on a constant basis. Routine potential exposure to air and blood borne pathogens. Occasionally exposed to combative patient. EXPOSURE DETERMINATION:OSHA requires an exposure determination concerning which employees may incur occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. The exposure determination is made without regard to the use of personal protective equipment (i.e. employees are considered to be exposed even if they wear personal protective equipment.) This exposure determination is required to list all job classifications in which all employees may be expected to incur such occupational exposure, regardless of frequency. It is the department’s responsibility to perform exposure determination for all employees and to list job classifications in one of three categories. Category 1 includes employees who are routinely exposed to blood borne pathogens Category 2 includes employees who are not usually exposed, but for whom contact with infectious materials can be reasonably anticipated during the course of their duties. Category 3 is for employees who are not exposed to infectious materials in the normal course of their job duties. This job is rated as a category _____ (1, 2, or 3). BIOHAZARDOUS DRUGS: As a health care facility which dispenses drugs, some of which have been identified as hazardous by NIOSH, our goal is to provide training and where necessary, personal protective equipment (PPE) to insure employee safety. *See list of hazardous drugs in Oncology Policies, Chemotherapy Preparation section. Warning labels will be used to identify drugs requiring special handling or waste disposal procedures. It is the department’s responsibility to train in safe handling and disposal. It is the employee’s responsibility to follow policies and procedures, and to report situations and/or make recommendations to improve safety. It is also the department’s responsibility to perform exposure determination for all employees and to list job classifications in one of three categories. Category 1 includes employees who are routinely exposed to hazardous drugs. Category 2 includes employees who are not usually exposed, but for whom contact with hazardous drugs can be reasonably anticipated during the course of their duties. KEY ELEMENTS: RADIOLOGICAL TECH Obtains acceptable images, so that the first time acceptance rate is 96-98% for those turned into Radiologist. Effectively employs designated procedures and protocols in preparation for and during exams/procedures, with no more than 1-2 noted exceptions, and no exceptions resulting in the need for medical intervention. Essential Function Performs all radiological exams, as requested by the physician, for which competency has been verified by a qualified supervisor or designee. Performs and documents established quality control procedures on all radiographs, equipment and chemicals, etc. Evaluates the results of the quality control. Performs preventative maintenance/calibrations on equipment at designated intervals as described in equipment manuals. Follow standard operating procedures as stated in Radiology procedure manuals and manufacturer’s manuals. Maintain up-to-date policy and procedure manuals, QA Manuals. Is familiar with regulations of inspecting bodies such as OSHA and DHEA and abides by these regulations. Verifies patient identification before performing any tests. Completes assigned workload within established turnaround times by organizing the work according to test ordering status. Assesses the urgency of a test and uses assessment to prioritize tests. Accurately performs the various tests without undue delay or excessive supervision. Has ability to handle a heavy workload. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and work areas. Follows all policies regarding quality control and maintains all QC records for 2 years. Performs minor troubleshooting on equipment, as instructed by Technical Service representatives and request on-site service when needed. Maintains the confidentiality of patient information. Cooperates with other staff for the benefit of the entire practice; promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the practice by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem-solving with co-workers. Adheres to CRHS safety and compliance policies and procedures. Responsible for knowing and following all administrative and HR policies and procedures that are currently active and in place at CRHS and CPN including; proper attendance, reporting to work on time, providing adequate notice of supervisory personnel of absence or tardiness and taking breaks and lunch at times appropriate to the workload. Marginal Functions Performs all miscellaneous duties not part of radiology but essential to the functioning of the practice, such as assisting in the front desk area and with patient care.
