SYLLABUS for Introduction to Spanish To learn a language, one must practice at least fifteen minutes per day reviewing words and phrases that have been discussed in class. Our book has excellent resources to do exactly that. There are listening exercises, flash cards, games, all on-line that aid in the understanding and speaking of Spanish. Even when there is no formal homework assigned, students should spend 15 minutes on the website and record what they did in their notebooks. Each week on Thursdays, there will be a vocabulary quiz of essential phrases and words first year Spanish students need to know. Twice monthly there will also be a “dialogue quiz” where students will individually speak with the teacher in a conversation. This will help with thinking and responding in Spanish and being able to use the language in everyday situations. Monthly there will be a project that will incorporate our cultural activities. Since all projects count as tests and are in English, students have an excellent opportunity to improve upon their grades.
